Given that the Battle of the Book is probably the first documented case of European IP litigation (and one with surprisingly modern arguments) it does tend to get cited quite a bit. Just google: columba copyright. I myself had heard about it well before reading of it in Ars Magica, and indeed initially I had not even realized that Timothy Ferguson's citation was implicit.
