Not too sure which to use ... CrIm to create a false exit or PeIm to make the wall invisible (in the format or a door arch)

Both could work. It would be a PeTe(Im) spell to me, though, not a PeIm one.
As usual, multiple wauys to skin a cat. I could say that Cr, Mu, Pe and Re can all work to create the appearence of a door in a wall.

If you want the exit to look like a door, and you don't care if it accurately represents what is on the other side of the wall, you need to use CrIm. Merely removing the species that are emitted by the wall will not make it look like a door arch.
If you want to make the exit accurately show what is on the other side of the wall but don't care if the edges of the hole in the wall look like a doorway, you use PeIm.
If you want it both to accurately show what is on the other side of the wall and have an archway, you need both.
