If you were Jerbiton you would have the Gentle Gift. I would recommend making a Jerbiton mage but up to this point.

You also think they you would need to be there which would be incorrect as a Mage.

If you were a Imaginem specialist you would be a great spy.

lvl2 InMg allows you to use 2 senses at a distance
lvl2 CrMg allows you to create a image that has two senses.

(From the Wizard's Grimoire)
Silent Witness of the Statue

InIm 20
R: Arcane Connection, D: Concentration, T: Room
This spell allows you to see a statue, and the surrounding room, for which you possess an arcane connection. If the statue is outside, the caster can see the area of a small market square or courtyard.

The Overheard Conversation

InIm 15
R: Sight, D: Concentraion, T: Group
By use of this spell, the caster may listen into a conversation of a group of people from any point within sight range, so long as the caster concentrates.
Gratia of Jerbiton developed this spell so that she could effectively listen into to private conversations at the local court.
(Base: 1, R: Sight +3, D: Concentration +1, T: Group +2)

Disguise the Wizard’s Apearance.

MuIm 3
R:Personal, D: Sun, T: Individual
The caster changes their visual appearance to that of another person.
This spell could be followed up by additional spells for every other sense until the caster is completely transformed.

If you have HoH:TL look at the Quaesitorial magic section. Lots of good spells to recall what has been seen or heard.

You wouldn't be spying on Arabs. The Almohades are Moors, Berbers from North Africa, not Arab. The Umayyads were Arab, but they are now a conquored minority (and often allies with Christians). And, by far the majority of the population in Andalusia is Christian Mozarabics.

I think you could develop mentam spells which would effectively overcome the effects but they would do this by controlling or changing the persons emotions and as such would have to be cast repeatedy to deal with each person and situation , they would also have all the normal effects of Mentam spells and risk people noticing their use.
Blessing of Childlike Bliss, Aura of Rightful Authority and similar spells would help but their effects are noticable

It would be Mentam as you want them not to act on their perceptions
I would say a base ReMe 10 for an unnatural emotion but I could be persuaded for higher. You would have to cast it upon everyone you wished to ignore you So probably range voice, Target Group, Sun duration so about Lvl 40
There is a Bjornear Mystery which would work better allowing it to effect anyone who saw you but that isn't available and is probaby about the same level

@counter gifts effects

Ok, sounds reasonable
I admit that I'm a 4th edition player were gentle gift was an +1 Virtue ....
and that it was countered in some of my sagas by high (perdo/rego + vim/mentem) combinations.
But you are right it wouldn't be a good idea to create an bootless major virtue by such a ruling.

@spell of people's ignorance :smiley:
OK, if I'm choosing to create my character as mentem focused I will search for it ( Thank you  )

P.S: I will answer the other parts of your posts in the character development thread, as I'm afraid that we are going offtopic if I answer them here

This is what I called dealing with the side-effects. This doesn't suppress the gift's effect. Sadly (Or not: We'd all be crying for our magi), these being mostly rolepaying ones, they're often understated.

I remember a whole paragraph somewhere explaining the difference in perception between 2 people under these spells, one with the gift, the other without.

You can break down Gentle Gift into 3 minor virtues. Inoffensive to humans, Inoffensive to animals, Inoffensive to faeries.

Inofensive to humans doesn't exist. Or rather, it is the Gentle Gift. It'd be way too easy otherwise

You've got:

  • Inoffensive to Mundane Animals
  • Inoffensive to Faeries
  • Inoffensive to Magical Beings

The last 2 categories include characters associated with the Faerie or the Magic realm through Supernatural Virtues or Flaws, thus maybe the confusion.

Note also that "You may not take this Virtue more than once; characters who are Inoffensive to more than one type of being should take Gentle Gift instead. "
