Does anyone know if anyone has created a 5th edition equivalent to the Divination skill in 4th? I'm looking at creating a Skomorokhi for a soon to begin saga set in Novgorod and Astrology doesn't really fit there method of fortune telling.
What exactly do you hope to do?
The divination skill in 4th had a range of things it could, including information gathering about what's happening right now (which Divination from The Mysteries: Revised Edition can do well) and learning about the future. To learn about the future, you could use Spadomur (for visions about the future) or Threads of Fate (to change your future) from the Muspelli section of Rival Magic.
If you let us know what mythic feat of ancient troubadors of the Rus that you want to achieve, we can try and find a best fit.
Their wikipedia page don't mention any divination ability.
Do you have access to The Mysteries? On page 61, there is a whole list of Divination method. The way it works:
- Pick up the Major Virtue: Divination, which grants the skill Divination
- Choose the method of Divination, each method has some inherent bonus regarding given topic
- All methods follow the same principle: determine an EF based on the question, make Divination skill test.
It is pretty flexible, so if you don't find a suitable method in p61, you probably can come up with your own method following the same rule, you will just have to define regarding which topic this new method is more suitable (and how much bonus does it get).
OK, have checked The Dragon & The Bear where the Skomorokhi are mentioned on page 76 as an "Other slavic character type" and they recommend they are companions who take Animal Companion and Divination, and suggested options include Enchanting Music and Visions.
So really the easiest way to update this to 5th edition is to take the Major Virtue of Divination from TMRE, choose a type, take Magical Animal Companion as a minor story flaw, then choose if you want to take Enchanting Music and Premonitions as minor virtues.
Hi,
The Muspelli in Rival Magic have both Spadomur (scrying the present) and Threads of Fate (nudging the future). The latter can be interpreted as divinatory warnings that lead to positive outcomes.

I personally really like the astrology rules in Art & Academe, and would suggest using them for Divination. It is similar to Spadomur in that the Detail (how long the information is) determines the base level, but this is then modified by how occult the information is (what skill level or resources are needed to normally obtain it?) rather than its impact (large-scale and major vs. trivial and personal), and further modified in regards to the time frame (past, present, near future, or far future). It is also constructed more like Hermetic magic, which I like for consistency.
