Would lair of the wererats and the haunted woods combine well? I haven't played this before and I want those two but I'm worried that they wouldn't combine well as a first game with four players. Should I pick something else as my first dungeoneer game? What are the pros and cons of those two decks together?

They work very well together.
The only "con" is that you will have 2 Entrances, which is really not a problem. You could set 1 Entrance aside and not use it.
