For our EU customers ... this past week I finally found a solution for EU VAT on our web store. We now are registered with an IOSS number and an EU intermediary, so Shopify checkout shows total delivered cost, including shipping and taxes, on orders shipped to European Union customers. Any VAT is collected at checkout; no taxes or fees should be due on delivery.
Previously we had no way to properly calculate EU VAT rates in Shopify, so the only shipping option was DDU (meaning any tax would be collected on delivery, and there was usually a service charge from the carrier, which we couldn't control or predict very well). With apologies to anyone who enjoyed the sense of mystery and surprise, this should be better for pretty much everyone. It also means we can use a wider variety of shipping services, which sometimes means savings, especially on lighter parcels..
