I know Atlas and Blagdaross both have a ton on their plates right now. Atlas is rolling out physical products that their wild KS produced (and dealing with the unexpected ritually-enacted Tariff of Insanity); and Blagdaross has undertaken to get the DE translated into Spanish ASAP.
Nevertheless... I'm hoping to learn if there's any further word on this, ETA/status/etc -- if at all possible without disrupting those actually doing these wonderful things!
I don't quite understand the political connection either.
Finis Terrae is the supplement that develops the Iberia Tribunal for Ars Magica.
It is currently only available in Spanish, and there are a lot of us fans who would like to have the book in English.
@mjprogue was correct to call me out as this is "no place for politics," and some politicians and other Trump followers support his lead in this; so my remark is indeed political (as Obi-wan would say) "from a certain point of view."
And a gaming forum shouldn't presuppose (or only allow) participation only by people who've done enough macroeconomics homework... or who have a particular political outlook.
But, by the same token, I'm gonna call you out in return, @mjprogue -- your "ignorant" remark was an un-called-for personal attack, and entirely unjustified (and factually incorrect, as I am not in fact "ignorant" of these issues -- you disagree, fine... but "ignorance" is not my problem here:
from the "pure economics" / apolitical POV, most experts understand "tariffs" to be counter-productive, more destructive to the economy of the nation imposing the tariffs than to the economy "targetted" by the tariffs. The Smoot-Hawley tariffs are instructive... but the topic isn't exactly "gripping," q.v. Ferris Bueller: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuOHbyuanbY
Also, these tariffs represent a direct threat -- possibly even an existential threat -- to our hosts, Atlas Games.
Your reply seems needlessly inflammatory, and (like this comment, unfortunately) has nothing to do with the topic. This is the reason why 'no politics' is a great rule. Please let us confine our discussion to a game we enjoy, and its' fictional setting.
In all fairness, when the abstract politics lead to concrete material conditions that impede participation in the discussion of the game and expansion of its fictional setting, it becomes relevant to the topic. Believe me, it would be so nice to live in a world where the political and the recreational don't have any overlap, but unfortunately, we live in a society.
Though I doubt we're going to solve big problems of global economics here in this forum, I also don't think it's unreasonable to mention those obstacles in figuring out the logistics of forthcoming content.
I very much agree, this isn't a minor disagreement on local zoning laws, but rather a felonious crook damaging the global trade system so that his inner circle of cronies can do some insider trading.
The "no politics" is a technique used by the reactionaries and defenders of the status quo to stifle and censor those who would make things better.
And regarding those economically injudicious tariffs, they are absolutely germane to the topic of Ars Magica and Atlas' line since they even get mentioned in our 26.02.2025 backerit campaign update by Atlas.
And if anyone is "ignorant" (to quote the word used), it is @mjprogue of economics.
This thread doesn't look like it's going to achieve anything beyond bad feeling, so I'm closing it.
If anyone has an actual update on the status of translating Finis Terrae to English then pm me and I can reopen it (or alternatively just create a new thread).
