Name: Gunnvara ex Mercere
Descended from Mercere, blood from her Father. Her father's covenant was in Rhine, her home a colony in Nordic lands, her mother a woman from nearby land.
She began her training very early age, alternating traveling with her father and staying at home reading and studying.
Her was generally kind but drunk... well he made bad decisions. Insulting Gifted magi. Getting into arguments. Spoiling Gunnvara. Eventually he pushed a particular thin skinned, arrogant magus too far.
Jonathan ex Jerbiton declared Wizard's War. He just wanted to scare Gunnvara's Father. Sending him scurrying. Jonathan did not actually think anything would come of it. Gunnvara was still an apprentice at this point but near her gauntlet. It turns out Vara is quite decent at impersonating a Gifted Mercere with her magical air and relic. Vara, in the Library, with the Candlestick. Jonathan joined the selective ranks of magi who died in a War on a Redcap.
The deception was eventually figured out, but not quickly. Jonathan's fellow magi were left with a brutally slain magus, and a vanished mystery Gifted Mercere. It took about 6 months to solve the mystery. Vara had taken the oath by that time.
There was never really any question about Vara or her Father being in the wrong. Being an apprentice at the time, she couldn't possibly be at fault. Being at War with Jonathan her father was cleared. And declaring a War on a Redcap is bad enough. Not even the magi at Jonathan's covenant argued that they were in the wrong somehow.
Even so it did awful things for her image. She did beat a man to death with a candlestick. Combined with the fact that the incident made for quite the story and how stories generally are embellished, Gunnvara quickly became known as a vicious, deadly Redcap.
As if to convince people she was even more off kilter than they thought she declared herself a Seeker and swore that she would find a path to power for the Redcaps. She was not exactly taken seriously. Not that anybody really mentioned it to her face. Not because they were afraid of insulting her, but because having her spend large amounts of time in ancient runes was what basically everyone wanted.
She spent a lot of time in the wilderness and other poorly charted areas trying to track down the old gods and ancient mystery cults. At some point she got the idea that she would be able to forge her own cult with knowledge from the ancient cults. In a process that took nearly two years, looking through ancient ruins, finding more hints at ancient settlements and repeating the process she did get results.
She located an ancient temple, supposedly holding the door to immortality in the halls of ancient gods. What she found was a, buried, but pristine temple tended by a single lonely ghost. A proclaimed Priestess of ancient Magic gods. Rather upset that Faerie "pretenders" have usurped them. She used to be the one to lead the souls of her people to the Magic Realm, the door being a vestige. But gods where bounded, the dead warriors destroyed and everything in the Boundary ruined. With the Priestess, Veilede, Vara worked out a plan. Learn how to steal power from the Faerie gods, and learn how to free the gods of magic.
Right now she wants to write some of this down and has at least temporarily settled in the Mercere House in Andorra
