House rules

I. Character creation:

  1. Create a magus at gauntlet.
  2. Use detailed character creation
  3. {CANCELLED} Major story flaws can only be taken as minor story flaws
  4. Create your own topic to post your character sheet.
  5. Comment on all other characters - this can be a simple okay, or an elaborate criticism
  6. Post a summary in the character summary topic for the others to read (about 6 lines):
Magus X, house, looks like this (body + clothing worn) and sounds like that (and smells?). He is [character traits and quirks]. He is interested in healing/auram/animals/finding the fountain of youth/girls etc... Do not include statistics or his personal history there.

Addendums

1st: No trying to cast pink dots. Magic does what it is meant to do, and nothing else. Making pink dots on swords does not magic them magic weapons which need to resist Parma, it just makes little pink dots on them.

2nd: Spells which prevent certain creatures from entering a space are not all-or-nothing affairs. The exact methodology of this is TBD, and player input is welcome (in its own thread)

3rd: Given the Divided Loyalties hook, it is very important that we clearly define what group each specialist and grog is a part of (Christian, Jewish or Islamic).

4th Your magi may be up to 5 years post-gauntlet. He brings with him 100 build points of stuff, and up to 9 people (companions, grogs, or specialists). Any Arts or Arcane Tractii or Summae purchased with a Magi's Build Points during Campaign Generation is subject to the Cow and Calf Oath. If your backstory includes receiving these books from your parens, then they may, at your discretion, be lineage heirlooms, meant to be passed on to your apprentice.

5th The native languages of Iberia are Castillian and Portuguese. Phoenix Covenant is located in a Castillian-speaking area. If you wrote "Spanish," then your character speaks Castillian.

6th Because the Covenant has Illusory Resources, please note your personal equipment and Build Points on your character's wiki page, and not on the Covenant resources page.

7th Enduring Constitution will subtract 1 from every wound (making you effectively immune to minor wounds), with a limit (no more than stamina +3 wounds). This is in addition to the other effects of the merit.

8th. the Correspondence for XP rules from Covenants are in effect. When defining seasonal activities, you may specify who you are corresponding with regarding your studies (or, better yet, remind us 'cuz you've been doing it all along in-character). You may correspond with many people in any given season, presuming regular contact with the Redcap network (which has not been established yet -- the Redcap messengers are mostly Reconquista), or some other postal system, but only gain 1 XP on the subject of study for the season regardless of the number of correspondents/letters.

II. In game

  1. My final decision is above the Rules as Written.
  2. use invisible castle to roll dice
  3. {CANCELLED} Self-made items with penetration>0 cannot be charged items or items that last only for a limited amount of time.
  4. Spells based on the elemental spell guidelines from RoP:M, p. 133 work against all creatures of the magic realm associated with the element. The size of the elemental determines might, regardless of material, so a Diamond Elemental is the same Might as an Sand Elemental of the same size, though there personalities are different. This means that in order to have a really powerful Gold Elemental, you need a really large quantity of natural, unworked gold to rarefy.
  5. {CANCELLED - No Longer Applicable To Campaign Style}personality flaws and story flaws will later slow down characters (You are expected to spend one season out of 8 years per point of personality/story flaw doing things without getting an xp reward).

RoP:M elemental spell guideline rules (possibly used by amul's character) added

I had forgotten the personality/story flaw rule from the "Searching for players thread"

I can't seem to figure out how to access moderator functions. Until I do, I'll abuse this space.

House rule the 1st: No trying to cast pink dots.

Magic does what it is meant to do, and nothing else. Making pink dots on swords does not magic them magic weapons which need to resist Parma, it just makes little pink dots on them.

Likewise, spells which prevent certain creatures from entering a space are not all-or-nothing affairs.

Given the Divided Loyalties hook, it is very important that we clearly define what group each specialist and grog is a part of (Christian, Jewish or Islamic).

Char Gen Notes:

Your magi may be up to 5 years post-gauntlet. He brings with him 100 build points of stuff, and up to 9 people (companions, grogs, or specialists).

The native languages of Iberia are Castillian and Portuguese. Phoenix Covenant is located in a Castillian-speaking area.

Because the Covenant has Illusory Resources, please note your personal equipment and Build Points on your character's wiki page, and not on the Covenant resources page.

According to the RAW, Enduring Constitution subtracts 1 from your wound total, which, to me, appears more like a legacy of Old Editions. With the new rules, this makes less sense, and is a lot less useful.

Instead, it will subtract 1 from every wound (making you effectively immune to minor wounds), maybe with a limit (like no more than stamina +3 wounds).

This is in addition to the other effects of the merit.

Edit: Changed this to only apply to Arts or Arcane skills.

Correspondence being a major method of maintaining connections in the middle ages, the Correspondence for XP rules from Covenants are in effect.

Note that you may be corresponding with many people in any given season, but only gain XP from one. Presumably, the others are merely writing chit-chat to you.

When defining seasonal activities, you may specify who you are corresponding with regarding your studies. Presuming regular contact with the Redcap network, or some other postal system for mundanes, you gain XP as per the system outlined.

This game will be a troupe-style game of erratic posting regularity. I have an incredibly erratic job that frequently involves being away from the internet, mostly on weekends. You all have lives that should be more important than this game.

If you need to spend more time paying attention to Real Life, then just let us know what level of posting frequency you can commit to. I'd rather have you posting minimally and know you're still having fun, than lose you because you felt you had to choose. It is also extremely permissible to say things like, "You guys are having way too much fun and I have a deadline that I don't want to be distracted from. Can Event X happen after my deadline?"

This also means that we need to handle the game and mechanics in ways that don't depend on the SG being available in order to keep everyone's interest and fun up. Moderate your own Folk Ken, Awareness, etc like the adults you are. If I'm absent during what feels like a critical moment, then get involved in some conversation, or have a flashback to a relevant moment in some character's backstory, or otherwise wait for me to get back.

Oh, and there's a tangent: I watched way too much Highlander as a kid. Flashbacks are encouraged.

And finally, please don't just disappear. If you need to stop playing to manage the commitments in your life, let us know as that is happening, so we can minimize Game Exit Trauma(tm) for everybody

The Aegis acts as clarified by the game designers, to whit, must penetrate Magic Resistance to keep a creature from entering, as described in the section discussing creatures with MR, and otherwise acts as discussed in the spell description.

I am still toying with the idea of making this line somewhat fuzzy, for instance: creatures up to (Penetration-10) MR can cross the boundary, but are somehow penalized while inside it (slowed, fatigued, etc. This last bit is open to discussion.

[NOT YET REVEALED]

Oh, great. Now I am taking campaign design cues from webcomics. ~giggles~

This is my understanding of the Intellego RAW:

IF you are not examining a specific object, but wishing to receive information for a broader search, THEN

Range determines who will gain the sense.
Target determines what sense they will gain

IF you ARE examining a specific object, THEN the spell design is as normal.
