Journey to Waddenzee (summer 1240)

Fleur whispers back to Cornelius, "As long as they aren't especially prudish I should be okay." but she waits for a response from the Asguardian before she begins a tale...

This was addressed at Carmen, btw.

"We come seeking something that was stolen from us by one of our own and brought to your lands to be hidden," Lucas replies, figuring that it's best not to lie to a fellow like this. "We mean you and your people no harm or mischief. We only seek to recover what is rightly ours."

That is Thor. Donnar. And he is a jackass with a temper. Because of him, last time I was here I got no further than this guard post. So I am gonna lay low and hope he does not remember me. Just tell him the truth.

What is this item and who is the thief that you seek?

"We seek a sword," Lucas replies. "And it was stolen by a magus named Vulcanis."

A lavish feast is served. Roast auroch, poached dragon eggs, braized hippogriff, golden mead, and much more.
Frey smiles.
Well then mortals. Regale me with a tale of your adventures.

"To be fair, I am a student and researcher, and haven't gotten out all that often. My current research material, however, came from a set of caves near our domicile with a rather intriguing dragon...little did I realize at the time that the research material he was giving me were the children born of the orgy. But I am getting ahead of myself..."

Frey does a spit take
Indeed! Tell more

"The dragon was named storm bringer if I recall correctly, I might be off on the name, it is in my research notes, essentially we wandered into the cave hoping to find some ancient cave drawings, and wound up faced with a dragon who was able to enthrall the rest of the party aside from myself, but who claimed to have expertise in the fertility magic which I sought to research, and only wished a certain amount of entertainment in exchange for his supposed assistance. Well I have never really understood the Christian preoccupation with sexual restrictions, so I had no objections, and the dragon took this to mean acquiescence for the rest of the group, which as I mentioned he had enthralled. After a few good hours of sex for all involved the dragon moved on and I though he had cheated me, but again, not a huge price from my perspective, although I believe some of the other women in the group had some work explaining their pregnancies when they returned. Being eager to enjoy sexuality myself I had appropriate precautions in place. So from there we wandered into a...n ancient ritual of fertility being practiced by some form of troglodyte proto-humans, where I was able to take copious notes as well as gather the charm necklace of one of the rituals leaders. A few seasons later, I had children to examine for my research. Which is where I find myself seeking Vulcanus, as he is a mage with two boys who also bear the Gift."

she will of course insert appropriately lurid details of the orgy and ritual which are not fit for posting here...and keep an eye on Frey's reactions...

Christions do not have a monopoly on being demure or prudish. But they do tend towards extremes. There is this new cult of them in France that considers sex and reproduction of any sort as inheritly evil. Then there are those monestaries full of pilow biters? and the convents. Lots of sex, but no reproduction. What's the point in that?
But enough about them. Talk to Badur about those guys. He seems enamored by them ever since his ressurection.
Your story intrigues me, for fertility magic is soething I have knowledge of and interest in. Stay the night, and come dawn I shall escort you to Asgard myself.

As a cautionary tale, I shall now tell you the story of King Llinnorm....

(more to come. I aologize for the delay. Hone posting is difficult and problematic)

As the tale goes...
In days long past, in the kingdom of the Geats, there resided a king and queen who were forlorn due to their inability to bear a child. Well, one day they were visited by a wise woman who presented the queen with a gift of two magic onions. She told the queen to place them under her matress and sleep on them over night, then in the morn to eat them raw right away but to be careful to peel them first. The wise woman told the queen that she will bear magnificent children if she follows this advice.
The queen slept upon the onions as instructed. At dawn, she awoke with such excitment and ate the first onion in a rush neglecting to peel it. The second one she took her time about and peeled carefully.
Not long after, the queen becfame pregnant. Whence came time for delivery, she was in such delerious pain that all matters were up to the midwife. Which is why that, in shock that the first born was a hideous serpent, she promptly threw it out the window and the queen never knew. The second birth was a handsome son, born calm with cheer like unto the summer sun.
Then the time came when the lad, now grown, left his home to seek his bride in other lands. Then behold! Barring his way on the road was an enormous dragon. The prince's brother, now grown as a linnorm, his identy a secret to all save himself.
The dragon protested that it was not right that the prince should be wed before him, since he was born first. This confused the lad, but he ppromised his assistance.

...to be continued

If we could get this moving again, the outcome is significant to Fleur's development up to 1242...

So the prince, true to his word, put out a call troughout the land. All eligible maidens, regardless of social class, were invited to present themselves as a potential bride, and a small fortune offered up as dowery. Many applied, for despite the fear of a dragon groom, the allure of furtune was more compelling.
But things took a dark turn.
The first maiden to appear was wed first. Once alone in chambers, the dragon commanded her to remove her garments. Once unclothed, the beast devoured her whole. He claimed she displeased and angered him and demanded another. This happened three times, and after that no one would show up to take the offer.
None save for one.
The most beautiful girl in all the kingdom was a wise yet unfortunate maiden who was treated as a thrall by her wicked stepmother after her father died. The bitter old woman, jealous of her stepdaughter's beauty, offered her up as a potential bride. The maiden agreed and had a cunning plan. She wore seven layers of clothing: dress, petticoats, slip, cloak, and more. When the dragon ordered her to undress, she removed the outer layer and told the dragon to do the same if he wanted to see more. So, like all serpents, he shed his skin. The girl removed the second layer, repeated her demand for equal tade off, and the dragon shed a second skin. After seven times, the maiden stood there in her naked glory. And behold! Having shed seven leayers, where once stood a dragon there now stood a handsome prince!

From there the story evolves into the saga of this couple, and there are several variations to that. But in this short story, I have given you wisdom in the form of a riddle.

Hark! The gates of Asguard lie just past those clouds, at the end of the rainbow!

"An interesting riddle indeed" Fleur subtly jots down some notes about the tale, trying to make sure she will have the whole to ponder later while also trying to maintain the social aspect of the visit. "Especially as I have been doing some research of late which has involved induced children and dragons. However we really should continue with our pursuit of Vulcanus, and thank you for your hospitality."
Assuming this is the end of the visit Fleur will take up the magic carpet with Cornelius to head to the gates of Asguard.

We're also waiting for the result of our encounter with Thor.

Yes yes. The gang's all here. To reset a new scene: Thor recognizes Carmen and starts yelling at her. She acts demure and apologetic until Thor starts uttering gender slurs. Then Carmen gets her hackles up and starts shouting back, going all Latina on him with the head bobbing and finger waging. Thor goes to grab her finger and break it, Carmen does a Fast Cast Wizard Leap. Now the two are hurling lightning bolts at each other. And Thor seems to be enjoying it.
Frey escorts Fleur & Cornelius to meet Heimdall, who stands with Lucas and Antoine watching the fight.

"Hello Fleur," Lucas says with a bow of his head. "Fancy meeting you here." He gestures over to Thor and Carmen. "Apparently they've met before. I'm guessing it didn't go well. I'm not sure if we should interfere or let them go at it for a while. They don't seem to be hurting each other."

He looks over at Heimdall, not entirely sure who he is, but identifying him as one of the Aesir by his size. "If you can get Thor to stop fighting, I think we can get Carmen to stop."

"We need to find Baldur, as he apparently will know where Vulcanus might be."

"We're not exactly looking for Vulcanis," Lucas replies. "We're looking for something he stole. But knowing where he is would be damn useful in keeping him from stopping us. Unfortunately, I don't think we're going anywhere until those two are finished." He gives a nod to Thor and Carmen.

"Well, you may not be, but Cornelius, the Bonisagus Quaesitor whom I am working with, and I are looking for Vulcanus, and it might be best if the two of us proceeded with that mission before Carmen is finished with her sparring match."
