Making it a boundary would actually limit the spell a fair bit.. just make it part and slap on a ton of extra size magnitudes.
For a start, boundaries have to be well defined.. and it's no good being able to sense rivers, if the area of the spell gets bounded -by- the river.. unless you happen to be in a niceish valley, the spell might not be of great use
