OOC Chatter 2

Oh, I think you'll do just fine. After all, most calculations comes from spont casting and character sheets, and you have these on MC.

Good luck with the packing!

~sigh~ Remind me if we decided something about what the local language was?

If nobody remembers, I'm just calling the gorram thing Spanish, and creating a much-revised list of languages.

Iirc, it was Castilian (the forerunner of modern Spanish, and as opposed maybe to Leonese, the language of Leon)...but Spanish would be easier I think. I actually have it both ways on various character sheets.

But an "official" (for the saga, anyway) language list might not be a bad idea anyway.

AFAIK, Catalan is spoken in the north, but castillan is the main language for the rest of spain.

I've also sometimes written "spanish" at times... Shame on me.

But yeah for a language list

Total non-sequitur question (working on background story for Cygna). But: Peering into the Mortal Mind (InMe 30, p 149). As I read it, it allows you to basically mind-probe the target, including examining the target's memories. Does that allow the caster to understand conversations in the target's memory that were in a language that the target speaks, but the caster does not? Or would the caster also have to have something like Thoughts Within Babble running also? (or is this something I should kick to the main forums?)

Pretty good and harsh question.
I think the answer lies somewhere in A&A.

If I'd hasard a non-educated answer, I'd say that any memory related to a language (be it a conversation or an internal monologue) requires you to understand it. But emotions and general ideas should be somewhat beyond that, and we seldom remember entire conversations.
So, for exemple, you'd get something like "A makes a proposal to B. B thinks it's unfair, and says no". Knowledge of the language would enable you to peer conscious thoughts to know what was the proposal, and, if it's argumented, why B thinks it's unfair. And if the target has a clear and vivid memory of the discussion, you could get more detail.

But in the end, you should put it to the boards. Sometimes, they're useless, but sometimes, they're quite great. And at least, maybe it'll spark some discussion, even if it doesn't help you

This is a Base 25 InMe spell, whose guideline reads "Learn all the information you wish from a person's mind." However, it is duration Momentary. My off-the-cuff, "Hey, don't blame me, I've never played this game before, either" ruling is that you get a flash of insight into the topic of inquiry. A longer duration spell would allow a greater exploration of the memories, which would include understanding what the conversation meant to the person, but obviously colored by their perceptions.

Well, looks like our big main moving day is this Tuesday the 14th, which is when we have some people from my parents' church coming over to move our big stuff (furniture and a bunch of boxes, basically). We have until the 27th to be out of the house we're in now. And my folks haven't notified the phone/cable/internet company yet to switch everything over to the new house yet (as of mid-week last week, Dad said that this Tuesday was still a "tentative" date :unamused:

So, the upshot is that as of Tuesday, almost everything will be at the new house. However, I don't know when we're going to get the internet switched over, so my internet access may be kind of wonky. Worst cast scenario, I can just take my laptop to work and check my email & forums after work until we get it switched. Not my idea of fun, though...I needs my interwebz!

However, I did unpack my basic Ars books (the core book, TMRE, [i]Covenants[i], and the four Houses of Hermes books) and have them in my messenger bag by my desk. After finding out that MetaCreator didn't have that chart for the Art of Memory ability in the Item Info, I figured it would be less embarrassing.

I'm hoping this doesn't cramp my style too much.

No worries, I have another work trip for late June, so I won't be posting much either. Thanks for keeping us informed, though.

Dad finally called the cable company today to get stuff switched over. Apparently, it's the peak season for people moving, so the earliest window they had to do the install is the 28th. Two weeks plus. Why Dad waited until this morning, i have no idea.

Update: after Mom called the doctor's office, they called the cable company and explained that, what with Dad's variety of medical stuff, he can't be without a phone for more than two weeks, they moved up the install to Friday morning (the 17th). So...um...yay decrepitude?

Excellent facepalm jesus

And fine! You won't be too long without the net!

Hi. New to the game. Settling in.

Scooter

Nice to see you online, Scooter. I had to approve your first msg for some reason. Let me know if you have any other trouble posting to the forum.

I've decided I 'll make my retirement from this threat a permanent one (sorry).
The life on the ither side of the computer screen has become so intense that I give up my Rhine game and this one, solely posting in one last pbp (which I chose because it was the slowest).

It still makes me smile when I read the name of the campaign. It is aptly named and I'm sure it will go a long way.

I'm sorry to read that, I'm sure you would have been a great addition to the game, but, well, we all know that shit happens.

I wish you well, come back whenever you can and want.

Ditto. There will always be a chair at the table for ye, as far as I'm concerned.

And unfortunately, reality does come first. Which sucks, sometimes.

Fair winds, friend.

Sorry about the delay, folks. I've been out on another trip. I really need to sit down and figure out what sort of time I reasonably have to give while on the road. I'm back for another week or two before my next trip. I will try to update stuff tonight.

Does this apply for newly-joining magi?

I'm thinking about a generalist mage, Hermetic alchemist-- either Mercere or a Bonisagus.

I'm pretty set on a Bonisagus aurum specialist, myself. And I think this OOC thread has been deprecated in favor of this one.

Yes, and it's actually worked so well, that I'm thinking about keeping as a personal house rule for all my ArM games. The saga is about 2-3 days of campaign time in, so you're still going to be part of the "first set" of magi to arrive, anyway.

Actually, the two magi you guys are replacing never actually arrived, so you'll be bringing the game up to the power level we initially conceived of.

As far as concept goes, Viscaria Lynchis Verditii (my character) also has Hermetic Alchemy (minor), but as she's the alpha-SG character, I doubt anyone will mind.

I personally have no issue with both of you being from the same house. I've been reading your other games, so I suspect there's little chance of concept overlap.

The covenant has Divided Loyalties based on religion, and all the PC Magi so far are Christians, except Viscaria who is a faerie-raised atheist. ByMyLastBreathe is thinking about playing a Muslim Jerbiton with a Djinn companion spirit, so that's a little mixed religious flavor, but if either of you are up for the challenge, I encourage you to play either Jewish or Muslim characters. Beyond that, the gauntlet+5 cap will keep you conceptually in-line for the saga, so go to town.

For your character concept questions, please use a thread dedicated to each character, including general OOC questions about house rules for chargen. Oh, and remind me to put things on the House Rules page.
