Background: Alexander grew up near a covenant and was quickly noticed by a magus. During the selection he chose to go with Nikolas, a scholar seeking a suitable pupil to learn about the Solomon arts. Alexander recited the 1st ring of Solomon as his Gauntlet. Alexander is a thin man, fairly dark-skinned, with black hair cut short. He's holding a small wooden cross, and as he talks, it shuffles from hand to hand, as he gestures.

He has a +19 on his recitation roll, +20 for the 7th Ring. He recites two Orations per season. Should he fail, he will try twice more on any Ring. Poenitens has realized that he sadly lacks the background to cast many of his spells, and focuses deeply on developing his Arts to be a more competent caster. By this point he has recited the 3rd Ring of Solomon. He is generally under the effect of the 1st two rings, which brings his Int and Com to +5. With the Improved Com, he has written tractatus on Magic Theory, Philosophae and Creo. Each is Quality 14. He finds a familiar about 10 years after Gauntlet, a Caladrius. This is taken from RoP:M p. 58. His lab total was 41, exceeding (14+ 25 - 10) = 29 necessary to bind - He used CrCo for his lab total. Cords: Golden +1, Silver +1, Bronze +3)

Poenitens continues developing, learning the fourth and fifth Rings of Solomon. Poenitens is generally under the effects of all 5 Rings. In his 48th year, Poenitens has an Aging Crisis (the dreaded 13). He took four aging points to his Presence, lowering it to +2, and 1 to his Stamina, taking it to -1. He remakes his Longevity ritual, now a -11. With the living conditions of the city (-2), his lab (-1), and his familiar (-3), he now has a -17 Longevity modifier. To counteract his loss of stamina, he learns Gift of Stamina (CrCo 45), allowing him to raise Sta, up to a +2. He casts this three times, raising his Sta to +2.

He takes this as God's intervention for not being fully devoted, and works to be stronger at defeating demons, starting at gaining Mastery with Demon's Eternal Oblivion.

He got another aging point in year 49, against his Stamina.

He spends some time moving his lab to the regio, where it now has these stats:

I assume that Poenitens doesn't get the benefit of taking a season studying from the angel until the saga officially starts, since growth is abstracted to 10 xp/season for everyone. None of the rest of us gain the advantages of abilities or virtues during character generation. For example, those with Book Learner or Apt Student don't get any bump in xp even though their virtues would almost certainly result in that.

Alectyron, Peoniten's Familiar

Poenitens travelled around seeking the Caladrius, using hints given from others. He managed to see it, and then waited, for several days for the bird to come to him, and accept the role as familiar.

I'm using the Caladrius from pages 58-59 of RoP:M. Poenitens found him during his 11th year as a mage. Familiars advance 15 XP/year, this is him as of Poenitens +30, with 300 XP. I'm skipping the powers.

I'm assuming that my familiar frequently flies the city, listening to traders in the markets, and understanding how they interact. He's spent no little time learning Magic Theory, since Peonitens spends most of his time working on that.

I see that Poenitens has a Stamina increasing spell at level 45. Is he planning on learning it at a higher level later on? I was looking at a similar spell, but I don't want to duplicate efforts if there's another way for Zacharias to increase his Stamina without warping.

Poenitens is likely to have more statistic-improving spells. Thinking about it, getting a high Stamina helps casting totals, so I will have a better version later. I need to get my lab total up to 80 to make those spells. Those last ten points are going to be a pain.

They always are.

Of course, the bonus for similar spell known should help a lot.

Poenitens of Jerbiton +45

Poenitens learns the 6th Ring of Solomon. Poenitens is generally under the effects of all 6 Rings. He improves his lab, asking his Guardian Angel to assist him in his lab, and does a lesser expansion. He uses his lab to improve the Golden and Silver Cord bonds with his familiar (GC +2, SC +2, BC +3). He developed a spell to counteract a Terminal Aging Crisis, and a Perception stat booster, which he's cast on himself. Peonitens did not apparently age during this period.

At the end of this, all of his Orations take a single day to recite. The 3rd Ring allows him to cure any specific disease, but after each oration, he can change it. When pestilence strikes the city, he will change his Purification Touch, and go into the city and cure them. This greatly helps the reputation of the covenant.

There are notes that we have covenfolk who can provide the Outfittings Free Virtues of Superior Equipment and Superior Tools. Poenitens has also acquired The Quill of Scribing – an Item of Quality, which grants a +7 to the user’s skill at Profession: Scribe. Poenitens loans it out the Covenant’s scribe when he’s not using it.

What assistance does a Guardian Angel give in the lab?

Mechanically, the angel grants a +1 to Creo. This is him guiding me to better actions, as the Lesser Guardian Supernatural Virtue.

I'm missing the links to the aging and lab refinement rolls.

I'll go make them for you. I used a die on my desk for aging. As noted, his total modifier to the roll is -10, including the age/10 factor, so not getting any visible aging is still reasonable. For the lab refinement, I didn't roll, I simply ruled out the best case and worst case - Poenitens didn't get Hidden Defect, but also didn't get Highly Organized or Spotless either.

He has a +20 on his recitation roll, +21 for the 7th Ring. He recites two Orations per season. Should he fail, he will try twice more on any Ring. All of his Orations have four seasons of duration, except the 7th, which has two. The rings performed by season, with the EF in parentheses, higher ranked rings are performed first.

Poenitens continued to upgrade his lab. With Pasara’s help, he cleaned up the lab to be Spotless, and Pasara maintains it in that manner. He started on his talisman, investing it with a potent Pilum of Fire attack, and an effect that provides Superior Lighting and Superior Heating.

He upgraded his familiar bond, adding the ability for Alectyron to turn into a human, and for Poenitens to be able to see through Alectyron’s eyes. Alectyron is a quite handsome male, although on the short side.

He’s realizing that he will need to take an apprentice soon, and traveled back to his mentor’s covenant, and copied the Book of Solomon.

He’s created a spell to allow him to memorize a book, and two stat-enhancers, both targeting circles, one to raise Intelligence (up to +1), the other to raise stamina up to +5. He’s cast Gift of Reason twice, on Pasara and Alectyron, but hasn’t yet cast Stamina of the Heroes.

Details on his talisman and other magical items will be covered later. In particular, casting bonuses due to his talisman have not been included.

When do you think he will cast Stamina of the Heroes? Zacharias would be keen to be in on those castings. In fact, one of the reasons I haven't planned to develop the spell myself is because you have it. But I had assumed that you would have cast the spell. :wink:

If it's a matter of casting total, Zacharias will have Wizard's Vigil to help. (His Ars Notoria prevents him from botching that, right?)

If it's a matter of vis, Zacharias can contribute some.
