Prelude of Brass: Plea of the Prince

Great!

Okay, with the help of Micaela, Solomon will be making a magic might stripper (PeVi) patterned after DEO for magic realm creatures. He'll be inventing a level 20 version and a level 10 version (his lab total with Micaela's help is 60). Since this is in Spring of 1234, he'll make the lab texts available to anyone who wants to learn them before the expedition.

As a note, anyone who wants to go may go. Just warning you that this is a module intended for 15th level Wizards and most of the juniors are 5th level or less.

[size=150]The Draft Pick[/size] (Rough Draft)
[tab][/tab]This is my proposal for the composition of the Brass Expedition. In Four parts:

  • A list of proposed members for the expedition (about 60)
  • Organizing them into Units; each centered on a Senior Player and consisting of about four others
  • A Training Class Schedule to accommodate the needs of proposed organization (in terms of being able to fight in Trained Groups.
  • Equipment Distribution; assignment of upgraded armaments specific individuals may need to fit into their group, redistribution of some magic items held by the Andorran Guard, allotment of specific equipment/enchanted items certain individuals may need for a special function. (Old Moe dies at the start of Winter, aging crisis in the middle of the night from a heart attack, he was over 100).

Unit Organization
[tab][/tab]The idea is to put each player in charge of a Unit. These units are partly but not entirely comprised of organized fighters. There are 6 Units, centered on Solomon, Arachne, Vibria, Roberto, Bernhard, and Arnau. Roberto and Vibria can mix in with their soldiers, whereas Solomon and Arachne are guarded by them. Bernhard and Arnau command their groups in combat and are intended to guard the larger expedition as a whole.
[tab][/tab]The player that the focus of a Unit will be the one that plays the members of that unit. Most of the characters will be theirs to begin with. There will be at least one grog that the SG controls (that's me), and/or one grog from the pool (or yet undefined) that anybody can jump in and play. This is specifically intended for the new players of the Junior magi (those guys are 1st level Magic Users and this is a dungeon for 10th level characters); so that they can play in this story using characters they have less risk/investment in.
[tab][/tab]The player that is the focus of that unit is responsible for maintaining their status, requisitioning equipment you think they need, making desired changes in the lineup, coming up with a cool name for your unit (I suggest choosing two words; a color and an animal).
[tab][/tab]This initial draft is without calculated combat stats or other scores. We will figure that out at the end and make adjustments as needed (equipment, magic, etc).

Prince of Boredom
Solomon of Gurnicus, Sophia, Armando, Alexandre, Selim, Zahira, Bashir ibn Kamal, Bob, Barry, Roderic, George, Louis
[tab][/tab]Solomon is the one charges with the responsibility of commanding this mission. Sophia is his Familiar owl. Armando is a sergeant of the Andorran Guard, one of our six remaining veterans. His duty is to lead the fighting contingent of this unit. Alexandre is Solomon's personal Shield Grog. Selim is paired with Solomon as a translator and guide, and can fight well enough to participate in a trained group with the others if they need to protect Solomon.

The Fixer
Arachne Ex-Miscellanea, Intissar, Melantha, Javier, Roger, Cristobal, Antoni, Tancered, Samantha, Sigfried
[tab][/tab]Javier is our expedition sergeant from the Andorran Guard. Roger is his ghostly companion, also from the old guard. He can fight in a trained group alongside others of the old guard such as Javier, but cannot learn to organize with new people. Cristobal is an almogavar from the Gold Griffons; a singer/storyteller/pickpocket kind of guy. Antoni is a family man who has a passion for dinner.

Peregrine of Bjornaer
Vibria, Alejandro, Vidal, Guy, David, Jimmy, Lucia, Frank, Fred, Fritz
[tab][/tab]Vibria is able to Lead her own group. Alejandro is the grog that followed her from her former home (Phoenix?). Guy & Vidal are Gold Griffons that have been assigned as personal guard to the Marshal (which is Vibria). Lusia is Vibria's sidekick/servant/obsessed fan.

Markoko
Roberto, Allen, Albert, Carlos, Bartholomew, Gregory, Guillermo, Wen, Timothy, Adan
[tab][/tab]This group functions well. The Leader can be Roberto or Albert, the Vanguard Roberto or Allen or Albert. Roberto is taking Adan on as a servant and scribe.

Fightmaster
Bernhard, Oscar, Agusti, Assumpcio, Bienvenido, Heinrich, Tommy, Percival, Lenard, Sammy
[tab][/tab]Bernhard is a long time trusted companion.

Xavi
Arnau, Vicenç, Bartomeu, Pau, Bernat, Miquel, Marcel, Ignasi, Pete, Larry
[tab][/tab]The Flame Brothers are the Vanguard of the expedition, our single unit of elite fighters lead by a cripple.

ROUGH Rough Draft
Training Class Schedule
[tab][/tab]Training begins in Spring, with a Leadership class taught by Fausto, followed by Combat Drills (Single Weapon) taught in Summer and Autumn. The Leadership Class may include up to 20 students (with Leadership lower than 4), who gain 11xp. Combat training is intended to allow fighters to coordinate in trained groups with each other. I am bending the rules and saying anyone who participates in either session may qualify. Each class may include up to 25 students (with Single Weapon lower than 8 ), who gain 12xp.
[tab][/tab]Also, in all three seasons, a boot camp to teach Profession-Soldier will be taught by Moe and Armando. This is intended for those who do not have the skill (which is used as a catch-all for many things, as I have discussed elsewhere). Moe can teach up to 25 students granting 6xp. Armand can only teach five students granting 5xp. So really, he is just on hand to assist Moe and learn how to be a drill sergeant. Moe is old, and is not long for this world.
[tab][/tab]In Fall, we have two new teachers joining our staff. Draganna and Marius, who can teach Language and Lore. I suggest several of us might want to bone up on both of these skills. I can dig around to see who else has Teaching skill if we want to diversify the class availability.
[tab][/tab]A note on Profession-Soldier. This ability has no combat or tactical value. But it has important strategic value and lets us hand wave a lot of boring crap if everyone knows the basics (pack a kit, marching, dig a latrine, patrol protocol, set up camp, sentry duty, avoiding work, etc). I did not invent this Ability. It first appears in True Lineages in the Tremere section.

Spring 1234
Leadership Class (Fausto): Vibria, Roberto, Arnau, Bernhard, Armando, Javier, Oscar, Allen, Albert, Carlos, Wen, Vicenç, Vidal
Boot Camp (Moe): Alexandre, Alejandro, Guy

Summer 1234

Vicenç, Bartomeu, Pau, Bernat, Miquel, Marcel, Ignasi

Boot Camp II (Moe): Wen, Lucia, Bienvenido, Heinrich, David, Jimmy

Fall 1234
Combat Training II (Fausto): Alexandre, Wen, Lucia, Bienvenido, Heinrich, Bartholomew, Gregory, Guillermo, David, Jimmy
Boot Camp III (Moe & Armando): Selim, Vidal
Magic Lore I (Marius):
Latin I (Draganna):

Winter 1235
Survival (Armando):
Magic Lore II (Marius):
Latin II (Draganna):

I think these xp totals are off. Fausto has Com +1, Good Teacher +5, Teaching 4 (Single Weapon spec), plus the base 3 xp. That's 13 xp for Leadership and 14 xp for Single Weapon.

My Bad. I thought Good Teacher was +3, I just looked it up and I am wrr...
wrwrwr...
rrr....
...incorrect

Yeah, that is us  Doctor House with a superior quality longsword and a bunch of Chirurgy-happy chirurgeons armed with sharp stuff. We promise it wont hurt. Not once you are dead, at least. Who wants to be treated?

I see there are 9 dudes in my group now. Is this correct? I only have 5 described (the ones you named for me). Should I leave the other 4 "description-less"?

Quite a bunch of people in that expedition! I have to confess I was not expecting so many people. Wow.

It is a rough draft, and will be edited down. Anau has seven soldiers and two servants. Five you detailed, two I hold in reserve (to be cut/replaced/played by someone else/etc). Every group also includes 2 to 4 peons, teamsters/porters/servants/lackeys. They carry stuff and handle the pack animals and brush our teeth for us. If we wanna be rugged, we can drop them. That is roughly a third of the numbers.

Like I said, it is a rough draft. It needs to be worked on and trimmed down. But I have worked on it enough. I leave it in your hands

For example, right now I count 20 teamster/servants and 25 soldiers of various rank. 45 grogs is way to many. If we tighten up, we can cut that number in half or more.

I'd like Antoni to be assigned to a different magus than arachné.
That way, I can play him in someone else's bit, and should arachné divert to cairo, I still have a foot in the CoB adventure.

Arachné, during one of the councils
I have thought of something. It is costly in vis, so I'm not sure we should do it, but it can be useful.
As some of you may know, I can cast a 6th magnitude Watching Ward. Now, once I've created it, one of our healers should be able to put a healing ritual into it, thus creating, say, a healing potion.

Excellent idea

Sure, no problem

I am trying to think of a way we can ditch all the teamsters and porters, which will cut the size of the expedition down to a much more managable size.

I'd be cool with Antoni being with Solomon's group. You could play the other two combat characters there as well, if you want.

The dude in MoH has a few spells that allow that, basically by muto-ing the stuff into lightweight feathers, so a single camel can transport tons of stuff. We need an ON/OFF item for that so we can turn stuff back to feathers.

This or a transportable hermes portal.

Or a flying ship mrgreen

Some of that could be handled with harnessing. Unfortunately, Lucas doesn't have enough time to set that sort of thing up.

Sure you do
If we vote you in Fall, you have that season and Winter.

I suppose he could spend the Winter of 1235 learning a spell that would be useful on the City of Brass adventure, though it would have to be a spell he could learn in one season.

Then we just need to decide how many "potions" of what level, and me and the healer need to make the relevant rolls (twilight is still possible, and would put a fun wreak in our plans).
And to take the vis out of the covenant's coffers, too T-T

That's great, thanks!
I'm beginning to really love the fat ox
