I wrote it as lab work but it was bought with experience. I'll make the adjustment.
Well, if you spent 20xp on it, then you can have it, of course. I'm just seeing a CS of 40 as being a bit challenging for this character to pull off anytime soon...
No. You are correct. I'm still a bit punch drunk from traveling to the west coast for the weekend then a red eye back. It is a PeVi10 now and I put the other 10 xp in Mentem.
Rome Tribunal, Postestas 1227
My dear friend Primus Poena,
I am hope this letter finds you well. I’m sure Gregorius has kept you informed of our exchanges. He has some outstanding ideas on the controlling of spirits. I will be interested to see how some of his experiments come out.
Vala is quite a talent. She has shown an aptitude for Mentem and is very good in dealing with the various nobles and clergy that we see here. We shall return in five years time where I’m sure she will pass her gauntlet.
I wanted to follow up my report to Horatius about our trip to Sansaron. Emeritus, here at Postestas, told me about it. He had mentioned that no one visits very often and they might do with an unofficial call. Nigilius said he traveled there once with his parens when he was an apprentice and that they are just a bit strange due to the separation from the Order. He seemed very grumpy to make the journey by sea but he has been a bit off since Vala has been traveling with us.
As you can see from my report, Sansaron makes it a practice to sell magic items to various local people. We also had the bad luck of encountering a desert spirit called a jinn. Although he was not happy to come with us, Nigilius was able to dispatch it. He thought it was a chance encounter as he has said, “they are as common as fleas here.” Once we returned to Postestas, Emeritus and Merula both disagreed. They seemed to feel that it’s actions made it seem that it was controlled or ordered to attack us.
Spending time here I need to improve my wards against demons. I will have to make one that can handle the jinn since I’m sure I will be back in Sansaron again.

Clement has finished training Vala and she has past her gauntlet. She stays with Clement for more training. Clement thinks something is up at Sansaron but is not sure what. He spends time making spells so he can be disguised and try to go undercover. He adds The Inexorable Search so he can track Vala and Nigilius ( just in case). and Leap of Homecoming as a panic button.
Why is the teaching specialty folk ken? It's a curiosity.
Everyone does MT so I did Folk Ken as it is a primary skill for Quaesitors. I think of it as being able to read body language and other clues to figure out things not being said.

Dear friend Clement,
How proud you must be of Vala as she has shown exceptional ability that is a create to her teacher. That was some kiss she gave you after her gauntlet. Will I be going to a joining ceremony for you soon?
I see Vala will be continuing to travel with you to learn more of her roll. Keep me informed.

Dear friend Clement,
What a joy it was to see you and Vala joined. You look so happy together. I’ve not seen a couple finish each other’s sentences so much. Enjoy Gregorius’ tractatus as our gift to you.
I’m am sending along a lab text for a spell to detect the Gift that I would like you to learn. I want to to travel to Balchick on the coast to assess a child that one of our agents reports has potential. She is the daughter of the local headman so discretion is in order. Please begin after you have invented the spell.

Clement spends a lot of time in the lab inventing new spells to help in his investigations. He has mastered many spells by this point in his career and that begins to show up. He is also picking up more skills to investigate/spy in secret. He has operated with only a single trusted shield grog with the proper training in disguise and guile.
WOW. Just realized I've been messing up Clement's aging rolls by using age/5 rather than age/10. going to have to keep the same rolls and see if there is any difference.
Edit: Apparently I did it half way through so no real change other than he looks 2 years younger now. Just effected 2 of the sheets.
Rome Tribunal, Postestas 1252
Dear friend Poena,
I’ve just returned from North Africa with disturbing news. You will read my full report to Horatius, but I think I have discovered an Infernal threat to the Order in the desert south of Tunis.
I spent much of my time in disguise as a mute peddler. Hybrida and I had worked out a trick as she can understand all languages. She would listen through my ears and tell me what is being said. Of course she would do this from safety as an owl like her woulds be a giveaway. I was able to travel to various villages in the region and make friends with the locals. The children tended to be most friendly and many of them are happy to tell me the news of the area. They turn out to be my best agents.
Through them and other methods I found that grogs from Sansaron were passing through. Some were doing routine business of the Covenant. Others, I found out were members of a cult. It took me a while to be able to follow them when they had a gathering. There is a leader whom I suspect has the Gift. I witnessed him summoning great desert spirits and at least one demon. I assume it was a demon as they used a human sacrifice in it’s summoning.
I have retreated to Postestas and am calling on members of the Broken Mirror Vexilation to aid me. We shall return when we have a strike force assembled. I will have to locate them again then we will strike.
Vala is quite worried and I’m loathed to bring here along it is her right. Nigilius will come as well though I will find it difficult to hide his Gift while I locate them again.
Your friend
Clement
1254 Rome Tribunal Sansaron

Action report sent to Poena, Primus and Horatius, Secretary of Operations,
Romulus, Broken Mirror, War leader,
My strike team, which consists of myself, Exupertus the Elder, Lupinus and Augenda, were called to assist Quaesitor Clement in exterminating an Infernal cult he had located near the covenant of Sansaron. Because Quaesitor Clement had to locate the cult meeting grounds again, the plan was for him, Assessor Vala and Lictor Nigilius to find it and send word for the strike. Clement was to go in disguise and use some of his local contacts to help in this endeavor.
On the Ides of November, during the new moon, Hybrida, Quaesitor Clement’s familiar came to our hiding place in great distress. The three magi had been ambushed by foes both mundane and Infernal. We learned that Clement was in a great deal of pain. Hybrida was able to lead us to him and we attacked.
We were later able to learn from Quaesitor Clement that the cultist knew of our weakness in magic resistance at sunset and sunrise. They had taken Vala hostage by stealth and ambush. Quaesitor Clement and Lictor Nigilius pursued while sending Hybrida to us for help. It turned out to be a trap and we arrived too late to help.
We found them preparing to sacrifice Quaesitor Clements and not ready for a second attack. Lictor Nigilius had pulled a Flambeau and taken out many of their mundane soldiers. The demons that were left were weakened by their fight with the pair although one was what I would consider a magnitude 10 demon. The Infernal cult leader was Gifted and powerful. We could not prevent him from killing Assessor Vala in a blood sacrifice to fuel his magic.
Quaesitor Clement had taken grievous wounds but was saved by quick action of Exupertus. Assessor Vala and Lector Nigilius were killed in the action. We lost 5 soldiers in the fighting. 16 cultists were killed including the Gifted Shamon. Also dispatched were 4 demons or spirits summoned by 1 or more of the cultist.
We learned from Quaesitor Clement that many of the dead cultists were grogs at Sansaron. We then proceeded to the Covenant of Sansaron and killed all of the remaining gorgs. Two of the magi present at Sansaron did not interfere with our duty. The last, Tutor ex Miscellanea, made a brief attack on us then fled. It is unknown if he was connected to the cult or not but we are following up on that information.
Quaesitor Clements is returning with the bodies of his fallen companions to Transylvania as soon as he is able to travel.

Demand of the Wizard’s Inquisition (ReMe 25) -
R: Eye, D: Concentration, T: Individual
This spell forces the target to answer any questions put to him as fully and honestly as he possibly can. They may attempt to shade the truth if they succeed in rolling a 9+ on a stress die (modified by an appropriate personality trait). As this spell does not control the target in any other way, their actions can easily disrupt the caster’s concentration if they are not restrained.

Dead Man’s Eyes
InCo 15 (req: Imaginem)
R: Eye D: Momentary T: Individual
Folk tales say that the eyes of a dead person can store the image of whatever he saw at the moment of death. This spell allows the caster to look into the eyes of a corpse and view a glimpse of what the person saw in his last moment. This spell only works on corpses whose eyes are intact. Since it only draws out the image stored in the corpse's eyes, the spell should work regardless of whether the corpse has received Christian burial.

Big change for Clement as he loses his wife and friend after a raid on a Infernal Cult lead by a Gifted Hedge Wizard. After a lot of thought as to what I would do with him I changed the Enemies Flaw to a Supernatural Nuisance. Clement is going to use the AC he has for Vala and Nigilius to summon their ghosts for company. This will attract other ghosts as well at times.
Low writing creativity this week. Plus I'm trying to make a bunch of enchanted items for Clement. I'll try to post more by the end of the week.
General question for the troupe...Would an enchanted device with an effect of +1 Eye be doable? I'm not finding anything that says no in RAW but my head says no.
offhand I'd say no, but if it's designed with eyes (painting, sculpture or something) I could see it having a linked trigger maybe.
Does that mean a Wand of Abysmal Flame can't hit targets at voice? An Item has no voice but it can do effects at voice range, the same with sight. Touch range could easily be either the touch of the wielder or the touch of the item, and I've never differentiated between the two, because it makes my head hurt.
The Eyes of the item wielder are the important thing, just as if it were a Voice or Sight range spell. Now, that being said, the trigger here is fairly important as something obviously a non-sequitur in conversation may break eye contact, so it should have some form of subtle triggering effect.
With Voice it is possibly assumed that the trigger is a word, so the BoAF will travel as far as the trigger is heard, or something similar. And the same can go with Sight, but it is easier to presume Voice and Sight from the item and/or wielder. But Eye is not the same as Voice/Sight. With Eye the target must make eye contact with the caster. So it would need eyes. But I still think it would be doable, just a in a round about way, needting the item to have eyes and then having some kind of linked trigger I think.
I also thought that to get voice ranged effects in a device, the device had to make some sound.
What I am talking about is eye contract. Many Mentem spells are range +1 Eye. I have a spell that will make a person look at me. I was just wondering if I put a trigger on a spell that the effect would happen as the person looked at Clement or perhaps a Tiger eye stone.
