Rekindling the Council; Winter 1230

There's no James Bond / Mission Impossible adventure if they're just keeping the guy distracted while my character does the adventure offscreen.

Sent you an idea by PM and FB

So the retcon, AFAICT (Mark's and my discussion about it devolved into arguing about comic books): Vulcanus is planning to go, and has asked for everyone's help, since he knows he can't get past the ward.

Resume!

Guillaume is pensive. "While stealing the bow may not violate the Code, that does not mean dismantling magic on the way to get it would not violate the Code. To me the most honorable thing to do would be to demand it from him, and if he refuses challenge him for it. And while this ward does not worry me, the thought of acting as a thief in this regard does."

"Then let me take the responsibility for dismantling the ward. My familiar could pass the barrier, but he lacks the knowledge to be able to identify the source of the ward. We cannot communicate at a distance nor do I have the capability to utilize magic that would allow me to collaborate with him from afar. If you can pass the ward, and find where it is located, then Egon can destroy it. The burden of the trespass shall be upon myself alone."

Carmen looks closely at the letter...
Wait a minute.
Grabs an earlier copy of the meeting records for comparison.
That bitch was using Marie Norris' pen when she wrote that letter! Marie Norris of Tytalus, she had no hands and no manner of magic could restore them. She used a magical pen to write, it would scribe whatever it heared when commanded. After she left for the Rhine, she gave us the pen for our meeting records.
This letter, it is in Marie's handwriting, as the pen was enchanted to do. Stupid bitch used Marie's pen! It was stolen along with our many other lost magical items. Thius rival and the cheating hussy, the have profited from our loss. I bet that they have more of our stuff too!
Okay, screw this and screw the code! This is MY Vendetta now! It should be for all of us! I bet that this guy made the wand that sent my father into Twilight, and he was paiud in fruits taken from us! This verditius magus is eight kinds of dead and he doesn't even know it yet...
:smiling_imp:

Guillaume's attitude and tone change rather quickly upon hearing Carmen's discovery. "This maggot shall be marched, and I will help bring him down. We should gather some information so that we can get him marched and be prepared for it. That way we can be the first to his sanctum to reclaim Andorra's lost treasures before any others loot it. I would be happy to go there to demand the bow and perhaps challenge him if he declines, though this would be a ruse to gather whatever other information could be obtained. Leaving him unconscious at the end of Certamen would make walking through his sanctum to investigate quite easy."

Vulcanus nods. "He's expecting me. He will not be expecting an investigation. I must ask though, as I am unfamiliar with the Code's intricacies-- can a magus be held responsible for the endeavors which his items are used? I make armaments for all who can afford me; I have never looked into my customers' backgrounds or asked where they intended to use them, as I've never seen reason to. Do I need to be more careful?"

"Make that nine kinds of dead," Esteban adds. "Because I am a Jerbiton, I know only one way to kill a man." He pats his sword hilt. "This @#%& raided the wrong covenant. If the Code protects a bastard like that, then to hell with the Code!"

Exactly. What makes the difference is that the guy took payment in stolen goods. He collaborated. That is what his crime is. One thing to forge and sell items without questioning clients. Totally another thing to profit from a raid which you provided equipment for.

Three points to be made

  1. Ryu, your figure of speech betrays your land of origin
  2. Hidalgo is an important distinction. Estaban is of noble blood, his father was a caballero, his father before him, through the lineage of his grandfathers dating back to the Visigoths. His native language is Catalan, though the title suggests he is of Aragoneese heritage. We need to retcon and update the character. I also see his social contacts are with Caballeros Villanos (non-noble cavaliers). I am guessing that is because he is on the outs with his father's noble relatives (Black Sheep Flaw). Estaban is sort of a Knight Errant, a quite unique take on a Jerbiton magus
  3. This was supposed to be a council meeting thread for all characters, and it has divided and turned into a dicussion and planning for another adventure. But I wanna do the Drake Hunt first, get a gague on your capabilities and use it as a team building exercise. But not everyone is hunting, so I can split the next chapter into sections for the Hunt, off stage Advancement (or Lab), and/or preliminary investigations/infiltrations as a set up for this quest. I can also try a time bifrocated thing; I run the Hunt in Chapter III, and at the same Ryu can run Chaspter IV as taking place the next season.

Arachne smiles wrily
So. Vulcanus challenges his to Certamen, while we go into his sanctum and recover information? Fine by me. Or we can all at once challenge him to Wizard's War.

Arachné won't. In her opinion, hunting dragons is a stupid and dangerous pastime.
But she'll take an AC to every grog that goes there, and cast Intangible tunnels to them. That way, if need be, she can do things.

Good call. Vocis will also be staying in communication with the participants.

Mica is most likely assembling Vocis's lab at this point. Though, of course, that depends on what he instructs her to do.

That depends on how much hand-waving we're doing regarding lab prep. If she's not doing that, he wants her to help Solomon with the covenant's library. She's not getting much day-to-day oversight from Vocis this season, though he will expect some sort of update each evening if she's working in the library.

Yeah, Solomon is definitely not going on the Drake Hunt, and since he knows nothing about the other issue, he won't be doing any investigation into that. So, he'll either be setting up his lab and/or working on the library if it's agreed that he's going to be the Librarian.

By the way, are we going to have some sort of vote or something to decide who is filling what position(s)? Solomon has volunteered to be the Librarian and/or Inquisitor.

((semi-ooc))
"But....gold! And vis! And gold-plated vis! And vis made of gold! droool"" /snark

Vibria was going to volunteer to be the covenant treasurer and vis steward, but then they started talking about wizards' war in the other thread, so now she's thinking that might be a bad idea

We will have a vote. I will take the initiative and draw up something over thge next few days. But the actual vote is for another meeting, not this one.
As far as proceeding with the secret agent man story, Ryu, that is all you. How do you want to proceed?

Correct, Esteban slums with the villanos because the other hidalgos won't fraternize with a wizard. And, by now, Esteban would say the villanos have more class than his father's cronies. :imp:
