Spell Design Query: Demon's Eternal Oblivion

Alright, working on a similar spell for djinn.

I refer to the Perdo Vim Guidelines.

General: Reduce the Target's Might score by the level of the spell +10, as long as the spell penetrates the creature's resistance.

For some reason, my brain is having a hard time looking at DEO, then looking at the General spell guidelines, and making sense of both of them. Admittedly, I may need some more coffee, but what is the spell's level per the guidelines? Does DEO's description figure in the magnitude boost for +2 Voice?

Thanks,

Vrylakos

Unfortunate wording, it breaks down at low levels.

Let's assume a level 1 DEO, according to the guideline this will reduce the target's might by 11. Voice range adds two magnitudes, so level 3... if you work it out from level 5 or higher, it all checks out.

Where the guideline states '+10' read '+2 magnitudes'.

It'll all work out then.

Ok, so does this mean that essentially there's no such thing as a level 10 DEO?

When you add magnitudes to, say, a level zero spell, you end up with a level 2 DEO. (Base 0 plus 2 magnitudes for voice, going by "If the spell penetrates the demon's MR, it loses Might equal to the spell's level"?)

Still having trouble with this. A level 3 DEO ( reducing a target by 15 might seems to be super easy to abuse due to penetration totals in the hands of even an adequate caster.

"General: Reduce the Target's Might score by the level of the spell +10, as long as the spell penetrates the creature's resistance."

does "level" in the above refer to the base guideline level of the spell, or the final adjusted level after range/duration/target?

Base guideline, whether you read by levels or magnitudes; this is universal in the guidelines (such as with other Vim magic). Then if you fix it with the +2 magnitude comment you get:

Base 1 + 2 Voice -> level 3 DEO destroys 3 might
Base 2 + 2 Voice -> level 4 DEO destroys 4 might
Base 3 + 2 Voice -> level 5 DEO destroys 5 might
Base 4 + 2 Voice -> level 10 DEO destroys 10 might
Base 5 + 2 Voice -> level 15 DEO destroys 15 might
etc.

If you don't fix it, keeping +10 levels, you get:

Base 1 + 2 Voice -> level 3 DEO destroys 11 might
Base 2 + 2 Voice -> level 4 DEO destroys 12 might
Base 3 + 2 Voice -> level 5 DEO destroys 13 might
Base 4 + 2 Voice -> level 10 DEO destroys 14 might
Base 5 + 2 Voice -> level 15 DEO destroys 15 might
etc.

As you can see, the +10 levels is extremely open to abuse; meanwhile the +2 magnitudes is not so open to abuse.
