System Changes

Also note that a strong character can manage a higher load effectively, and can use weapons with strength requirements. Such weapons and equipment have a huge effect on combat totals.

Yes, a {Str-1, Dex+1} is a better fighter than a {Str0, Dex0} one, because of the extra 1/10 chance of doing damage. The same thing for {Sta-1, Qik+1} who has better chances of hitting first and giving a Wound penalty.

OTOH, a {Str0, Dex+2} might be better than the cheaper {Str+1, Dex+1}, but no as good as the equivalent-priced {Str+1, Dex+1, Qik+1}.

It doesn't matter because:

  • you cannot compound the advantage by piling up on the same Characteristic
  • the extra hit chance is overshadowed by Wound
  • the extra hit chance is overshadowed by Exertion
  • the {hit-by-0 + Damage} won't beat the armor Soak
  • magi can wipe armies before they reach melee
