the cave of Gozo summer 1196

Was the question in Greek or Latin?

Arabic, which is the language he shares with Taliha. Rollon does not speak Latin. Same quote as the translation, so addressed to the same person.

"I do not believe he refers to a covenant of Thebes, but a covenant in Thebes which is a territory within our ranks and it includes The Eastern Empire and some beyond that. Can you try to ask where or what name they went by? If he knows how long ago this promise was made?"

Rollon speaks up again, in Greek. «What's the name of the covenant? In Thebes, right?»

"Covenant of Malta"

Rollon repeats the words in Arabic.

“Ask him if he knows where this covenant is. Which Island it is on, at least.”

«Where is the Covenant of Malta, exactly? Do you know?»

"Melite"
which is Ancient Greek for Malta. When he spoke before he referred to the covenant of Malta being "Malta" in modern Greek. The Island he refers to as "Melite"

«Do you know where on Melite?»

"ruins … Ancient temple"

Rollon translates quickly, and asks again without waiting for Taliha. «Wait, are you talking about Taliha's covenant? Or another one? Does it still exist?»

"Who … Taliha?"

«euh.» Rollon points at Taliha, «the mistress is Taliha»

"where … mistress... covenant"

OOC. What was the name of the port a few miles from the covenant, again?

Rollon tries to describe the location, using whichever significant place names he knows.

The conversation is long, and frustrating. The spirit seems not to recognize any of the towns or landmarks which are around today, but you do manage to establish that the old "covenant of malta" was by the shores of the same bay that is near the covenant. Depending on what he means by "by the shores" that puts it within 2 miles of the covenant location.
A role against Int+area lore(Malta) can give you some idea how far back you need to go for him to recognize location names (this will not be a low target number, higher targets give more precise information)

OOC. The roll is 3.

Rollon gives up making more sense of the geography. He has not stayed long enough on Malta to know its history, or any historical names. «Well, Taliha, he says. It seems there must have been an old covenant in the same location as ours, give or take a few miles. Our ghost here, does not know any of the current names of places, so I cannot get into details with him.»

Taliha seems a bit flustered by the revelation that there may be another covenant nearby their site but, hopefully, it is no longer there. "I really feel like we need to return to the covenant and seek Archimede's help. Perhaps he knows a better method of communicating with this spirit or, at least, discovering some of the facts we are unable to translate well."

«As you wish, ma'am. You do not want to peek into that chest before we leave?»
