The past is prologue

Ditto here. I decided to use archimedes-magus. Not sure what to add to the wiki yet, though ...

I think when we have characters to add to the "persons" list we should add them.

Latest question - In the main rulebook under covenants, you pay for specialists out of build points who are described as "They are defined only by the abilities they use to serve the covenant, rather than by a full character sheet, and can include guards as well as teachers and craftsmen." (ArM p72). Obviously the prologue will kill all first few generations of support staff due to old age. Do we just allocate some budget to having some staff ( say 10 x 6point shield grogs with skills up to 6, a few 5 point guards who are defined by alertness, concentration and a weapon skill at 5, a bookbinder, scribe and illuminator at 6 points each as per covenants, and a teacher and an autocrat?) Do we get people "free" if we take the time to create playable grogs to assist our magi on their prologue adventures?

Related question - how many companion-level characters are we expected or allowed to make, assuming that we'll probably want some military minded characters for "combat" adventures or non-gifted diplomats for "diplomat/legal" adventures? I'm considering how to avoid losing the senior magi to accidentally going on unsuitable adventures early on.

Thinking of hooks/boons - would having "soldiers" or "Knights" as a boon give us military underlings we can use without needing to spend build points? Likewise if we have "criminals" and a bunch of dubious smugglers.

Spending our build points - I suggest the books section consists of a few tractatus of good quality, as a decent scribe (profession:scribe 6) can copy us 12 build points of summa/season from the Authorities at a cost of 1 pawn/season.

Buying specialist etc with points gives you a virtual immortal- as they age they are replaced with someone of equal competency in a behind the scenes don't need to keep track of it method. If you build grogs they are free, but subject to the normal rules. Grogs after the start of the prologue will start at age 5 and receive training at the covenant for their roles, possibly by being apprenticed to previous grogs.

A boon will give you "free" people (in terms of point build/having to create them, not in terms of maintenance). Some can also change character creation rules:
for example "literate covenfolk" means anyone from the covenant may purchase Artes Liberales and Latin at character creation without requiring a virtue to do so, the missile weapons boon will allow the purchase of missile weapons ability without a virtue, etc.

Also want to point out that magical and faerie characters are allowed (Faeries by their nature can only be companions), but this only applies (unless an appropriate boon is taken, like inhuman residents) to characters that are actually written out.

As to companions, every player will start the prologue with one companion. Adventures may result in new companions being introduced, or they may come in through association (for example if you have a connection to a noble household the 3rd son might decide he prefers working with the covenant to joining the priesthood)- I am going to require that there be at least 5 years game time between introductions of new companions, and those with a lower number of surviving companions will get preference.

The forum is up-ish, I believe I have covered the game better here than on the forum still, but we should be able to start getting this together now...

Are there still slots floating around? I.E. Can I join?

Hmm. I don't seem to be able to post to the game forum yet.
So I will ask to be added to the wiki here.

Also I have finished the elder character's stats except for spells I think. Though my two highest Arts are only at 12, not the 20 + 10 or 15 + 15 that people seem to recommend?

There are still slots available, you need to add yourself to the Play by post Players group under your account to post.
Please keep in mind this is a long-haul game.

We need a replacement player to take over the characters of Andros Ex Flambeau and Camilla at Praesidium Orae. viewforum.php?f=78

This game is moving quickly, and I would really like to remove these characters from being NPCs: I don't like the risk of using GM knowledge to advance a character.

As a bonus to someone taking over these positions, if they respond within a week they will also be able to bring in a redcap mythic companion of their own creation.

Greetings all!

Don't know the etiquette about posting here, I'll beg your forbearance.

Let me paste what I just answered silveroak in the "players looking for game" section, get this ball rolling:

go ahead and introduce yourself on the OOC thread in the game (make sure you give yourself permission to post in the games), and begin working on the redcap mythic companion: you will need to request access to the wiki- the link is posted at the beginning of the wiki thread. I've set plans for Andros through 1104, Camilla of course will be dependent on what her parens has planned.
Andros will eventually be instructing Danton, but that is still a few years down the road.

Perfect.

I've been reading up in the wiki, and see that I have mistaken who Andros is. Picture is now clearer!

It appears we are again looking for replacements for players who have dropped off the edge of Mythic Earth which, as it turns out, appears to be flat after all.

What are the starting parameters for magi? I might be interested.

You would be taking over the magus Ouragen which has been effectively abandoned, and will also have Danton when he enters play as an apprentice. You will also be able to add one companion of your own making.

I took a look at Ouragen, and I'm afraid he's not a character I'd do well with. Not exactly my type. I'd do a terrible job playing him.

I've also played in a saga where starting characters were an order of magnitude better than new characters. It always seemed to me that the new characters were constantly falling in the shadows of the starting characters. I found that to be very unsatisfying as a player.

So, right now I don't think this saga is the best fit for me.

Sorry even though I would love to join one of the ongoing stories I doubt I manage to role play (at last not for long) such a flashy char as Ouragan ex Flambeau as it the opposite of what I usually play.

Actually part of the situation is that in terms of magi the only new characters will be apprentices- I have been very discouraged by people deciding to "try out" a game then quietly dropping out, leading to the situation of an incredible amount of turnover in a social situation where most people are employed for life. Which is why new players are asked to take over existing characters that have been abandoned instead of making new characters.

I quite understand your policy, and can see its merits. Alas, I would both not be very good playing Ouragan, nor would I enjoy it. That's a bad combination for taking over a character. I'm sorry to miss your game, but better to miss it than play it poorly.
