The Vis Hunters (Summer 1232)

Huh. Well, that saves Vocis the trouble of lying to Carmen about it. Also, he votes for burning that shack to the ground once the valuables are out.

Mark, do you want to RP how Vocis and Vibria spin this or just close the book on Featherbottom?

Let's close it out, except for maybe a few of your own and PB's last words on the matter. I want to re-energize the game and wake up from the winter doldrums. Let us put our heads together and come up with some fresh stuff.

This was pretty awesome though, the way it worked out spontaneously and all. I wrote the easy out to close things up easily, but still leaving room for a ghost or revenge by an associate at some future point. I wanna do more stuff like this, making me react to your actions and ideas.

"Hunh," Vibria says as she skims over the damning documents. "I knew there was something nefarious about good Lord Featherbottom. I wonder what the going rate is for handling Orbus magi?"

She then forces her gaze back to the...abominations that the ex-Bjornaer left behind. "If I put my mind to it, I can probably turn this cabin and everything in it to ash in about twenty minutes."

Make sure we've cleared out everything of note first. Vocis also looks at the 'specimens'. Then I'll help. Let's make it ten.

Twenty pawns of Muto vis, 6 Perdo, and seven Animal.
The few live specimens are abominations of nature.

And just because you discover he was vile after the fact does not absolve you from walking him into a trap while you thought he was a brother magus in good standing.

Oh, there are three large melon sized eggs, covered by a blanked that radiates magical warmth.

Vibria is splitting the vis into two even piles (one for her, one for Vocis), and is standing there debating what to do with the odd Animal when her eyes light on the blanket.

She goes to carefully pull it aside, then starts to drool. "Oh, my God," she whispers as she drops to her knees and gets The Look. Her brows furrow as she calculates whether she can determine what exactly these eggs are[sup]1[/sup], and decides that it's just beyond her capability.

"I'll let you have the extra vis if you'll let me have these eggs," she says to Vocis.

[sup]1[/sup] I'm looking at a base 5 ("Learn the origin, age, and history of something made of animal products", R: Touch +1, D: Momentary, T: Individual, for a target level of 10. Her current CT would be
Sta 2 + In 4 + An 0 + Aura 3 = 9 + die roll of 5-ish (on average) = 14, halved would be 7. Even with a Confidence Point spent, that would push it to β‰ˆ 17 before halving. Unless Confidence is spent on the final result and not the pre-division bit.

Vocis opens his mouth to suggest some of this should be given to the covenant, then decides against it. Carmen can take it out of his share.

Let's not rush to judgement here. Those eggs could contain more of these...abominations. Give me a moment and I'll try to determine what they are.

Assuming Peregrine's level estimate is right...
Sta 1 + In 7 + An 5 + aura 3 + roll 3 = 19, halved for 9...#&@$!!...trying again
Sta 1 + In 7 + An 5 + aura 3 + roll 6 = 22, halved for 11

Does that give him an idea of what freak show is hiding inside?

They are owlbear eggs. If incubated properly, they will hatch into cute baby owlbears

"I suppose we're going to have to turn all these in to the covenant while they decide what to do with them," Vibria says. From the look on her face, it's obvious that giving them up is causing her almost physical pain. She looks at one of the eggs, then down at her chest, while she tries to determine if she can get away with sneaking one in tucked up underneath her breasts, then shakes her head as she decides that the risk of the egg breaking is too high.

There is that. Or you could make an omelet
Your drake cousins consider owlbear eggs a delicacy, as they are difficult to obtain. Owlbears hide their eggs very well indeed.

Are these things trainable? If so, do we have a grog at Andorra who could manage it?

They are as trainable as any wild/magical beast raised in captivity (there are rules for it in RoP-Magic). As for a trainer, if we do not have a suitable one on hand then we can hire someone.

Selim has Animal Ken and some Animal Handling. If/when he is invited to to stay at the covenant or nearby, he could help.

Vibria will find or try to rig a basket or something to carry the eggs in, and (I guess) they start heading back to the covenant.

then unless there is anything further, let us put a wrap on this

Sounds good. Vocis will mention that it's possible a magus will need to devote a lab season to taming the owlbears, but he's hopeful we can find someone to handle them in a mundane fashion.

Did we ever get experience awards for this? (I just noticed a glaring blank spot on my "Vibria's Seasonal Planner" doc  )

Thanks, I've been meaning to ask this for a while...

I am not sure how long this excusion took, but I think you might still be able to squeeze in some lab activity.
As for XP from Adventure, if you choose for that to be your source for that season, I am on the fence. You guys did some bad things here, but you did learn somethings new.
5xp for Area Lore and 5xp spent (or saved in reserve) however you wish.

I don't think it was all that long, but she had set aside the whole season for exploring the area anyway, and might as well enjoy the hot sunny days before winter (blech) gets there.

So, the 5 xp Area Lore and 5 xp Penetration?
