1222.3: A Nice Chianti (Nevin)

In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a gryphon still has claws... And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours.

Halie is going to pounce on it and have kitty playtime.

(you'll have to roll for me, I'm on a bus)

((Glowan rolled 9 on his: After crossing himself he pulls out his axe and readies his shield

1d10+2 → [7,2] = (9)

Nevin:
1d10+6 → [6,6] = (12)
invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3540791/

Nevin's could be lower, I used the Falcon from the Beasts downloadable supplement. Nevin Gets ready to make flight but might change into a ram to help with combat))

Halie's Initiative is Qui 3 + die roll of 2 = 5.
Jeor's is Qui 2 + Intuition of the Forest 3 + Die roll of 9 = 14.

((I do wish they would do stats for all the animals in The Medieval Bestiary for 5th ed. It shows the Screech Owl as having a Quickness of 0...but then it also shows that for the Falcon, too, and the conversion notes in the main book say that Characteristics translate directly across. So...If there is a 5th ed sheet for an animal, I'll use that. If not, I'll use what's in the Bestiary. Basically, just like I've been doing.))
Upshot being that, in owl form, Nevin has a Qui of 0, and thus Initiative of 6.

((Do you want me to figure the stats for your animal forms and stick it in your thread somewhere?))

So, we're looking at

 • Jeor
 • Glowan
 • Nevin
 • Halie (gryphon form)

The creature is caught by surprise (rolled a zero on his Awareness check), so he doesn't get to act this round.

Jeor goes first. What is he doing?

That'd be much appreciated.

Jeor is going to tackle it and try to pin it down on the ground.

They're in your companion creation thread.

Arya, I need attack rolls for Jeor and Halie, please. Are you to where you can make them, do you want me to, or wait until after the Spurs pound the Thunder again?

I am on the bus home right now; I will be watching the Spurs game soon as I get home, so you can roll for me

Halie will be trying to subdue as well. Which I guess means grappling? "Do you yield?"

Jeor attacks the thing via Grappling. Attack roll is 16 + die roll of 9 = 25, which pretty well jacks him up. The thing is knocked to the ground, and is looking up at a half ton of brown bear, with a strip of raw meat dangling from his mouth.

Halie also bats at the thing, with an Attack Roll of 15 + die roll of 9 = 24.

He now has a bear's paw and a gryffon's claw pretty much pressing his entire body into the ground (he's about 18 inches high).

What language does Halie ask for his surrender in?

She doesn't expect it to know Norse, so she asks in Latin, hoping that, being a faerie, he understands spoken words.

Round 2 actions, please

So it didn't reply?

Oh, wait. I have an item that grants me use of Gift of Tongues. Durr.

"Do you surrender?" she asks the creature.

((Not yet, it hasn't.))

Nevin hops to another branch so he can watch the whole thing, he'd like to get a good look at the little fella if possible.

"Whoo! Whoo!"

Halie casts Demon's Eternal Oblivion on the little creature. Booming voice, no gestures (Subtle Magic). Can't roll, on the bus.

What, if anything, do Glowan and Jeor do? Does Jeor continue holding the thing down?

(And Arya, I'm glad you're okay)

Jeor is just keeping it pinned.

(Thank you. Me too! Physically, I was half a mile away when it happened. Mentally? I can't stop thinking that I was maybe ten raindrops away from having been right there, right then. Anxiety attacks are Not. Fun.)

((I'm assuming you still want me to roll for you, Arya?))

Round Two Actions & Consequences
Jeor has no trouble keeping the thing pinned under his massive paw.

Glowan has his axe and sword ready, but can't see diddly. ((Eyes of the Cat is only a Level 5 MuCo...10 if you bump it to Voice range. Just sayin'.))

The Thing bites Jeor's paw in an attempt to escape. Its Attack Roll is 9 + die roll of 6 = 15. Jeor's Defence Roll is 16 + die roll of 0 (botch check comes up a 3) = 16. Little bugger isn't going anywhere.

Nevin hops up to a branch with a better vantage point.

Halie casts Demon's Eternal Oblivion with a booming voice (+1). Casting Score 25 + Booming Voice 1 + Faerie Aura 1 + die roll of 0 (botch check on two dice come up 5 & 9) = 27. Spell level is 5, so Penetration of 22 + 1 = 23. She can tell that she dinged him pretty good, but he's still there.

Round 3 declarations, please.

If the spell visibly affected the creature (Per 3 + Awareness 2 + 5 = 10), she'll cast it again. 5 + 25 = 30, -5 spell level + 1 Pen = 26 penetration.

Since Glowan can't see anything he's going to try and hold the path that they came in on in case any should try to get by.

Having three animal-types fighting this wee little guy at the same time seems risky so Nevin will fly nearer to Glowan and perch there ready to change if necessary or fly after it should it escape.
