1222.OOC

Sleep dep is a drug. Got any of that, have you?

Which is a heck of a lot better than the effective 7th magnitude Ritual she has now. Now all she has to do is come up with 11 pawns of vis. She currently (as of winter 1221) has two pawns of Muto and four pawns of Rego. Would anybody be willing to trade her vis for six pawns of Creo, and maybe she can take the rest in her Spring Allotment?

I actually looked up a couple things on this, and consulting my Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, I'm thinking sage, as it's the only one listed with magical properties of both longevity and immortality.

Roses smell nice, but are more for love, love divination, luck, and protection. Plus, I like the smell of sage.

And I can see Fiona smelling ever so vaguely of sage for the rest of her life - kind of a natural perfume. More herb-y than flowery, you know?

I just spent 20 minutes looking for my coffee. I knew I had just enough to brew 2 mugs. But I couldn't find it. Wasn't anywhere in the pantry. Nor in the dry goods shelf. Not in the fridge. I even checked the drawers where I keep utensils 'n' stuff.

Turns out it was next to the coffee pot.

~headdesk~

It's going to be one of those days.

@Johnatan: As told, I did Isen up to 1221.
What do I do for that year's activities?

So basically his labwork is down the tubes in 1221. He is Princeps in Spring 1221, and then Summer, Fall, and Winter(?) as deputy?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I thought certain labwork was predicated on what Alexei did in the summer. Summer is down the tubes, Fall and Winter are fine, although what you had palnned may need to change because of summer. Alexei's rights and priveleges thereto are limited to guarding Murion and her entourage until she departs the Normandy Tribunal.

As long as considers neither cats nor silkworms "vermin," I think she'll be fine.

Well, what do you want to do? Isen could conceivably show up in 1221, still. I have lingering threads there. He could just show up unanounced at almost any point, request protected guest status from one of the magi and begin making a home. He's interested in Bibracte because of his pater, so he doesn't have to make it especially convoluted. There is space enough to build a lab of +1 size. Actually this may become a problem, because Mons Electi is going to run out of room soon. I had planned for space for ~10 magi, assuming some would be guests (NPCs).

Paul von Lynden will talk his legs off...

And Regulus is a badass blackcat mofo.

"I hear that Regulus is a bad..."
"Shush your mouth!"
"But I'm talking about Regulus."
"And we can dig it!"

I'm assuming she's going to find a cave network somewhere on the regio side to set up her webs.

Cats are unlikely to be stupid enough to get caught in her webs. Likewise, I doubt any silkworms would travel out that way.

Wait...silkworms? Do we have specialists raising silk? Who is doing that? Cuz if so, we could be adding spidersilk to the mix....

Its a vis source, mess with it at your peril...

Who wants to mess with it? I just want to know who is doing the weaving.

One of our vis sources (Summer, "Everchanging Silk") is the silk from discarded cocoons of mystical silk worms, made into silk, then woven into patterns of mystical significance. Although, now that I reread it...um...I'm not sure who's doing the weaving. Fiona, since she has the Weaving skill, maybe?

So...I don't really mind, but that vis sources fails an authenticity check on several levels:

  • Mulberry trees and silkworms both require pretty tropical conditions to survive (average 75F, frosts kill)
  • Mullberry trees that host silkworms don't leave Japan until around 1700AD.
  • silk moths emerge from chrysalis by emitting a sort of stomach acid to form a hole, severely damaging the quality of the silk, rendering a much lower quality thread.

Now, this is coming from the guy with the mega-giant spider, who plans to breed baby giant spiders and train them to produce enough spidersilk to weave from (a process that in the real world took 82 workers, 1 million giant orb spiders, and 4 years to produce an 11x4ft cloth). So, I'm just providing a real-world context for the mythic-ness of this vis source.

Hrm...magi does the weaving. Makes sense, I suppose. Still doesn't leave me with a clear candidate for my up-coming spidersilk weaving...

If you're going to put herbs in your LR... Remember that thyme keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping.... Into the future.

Awesome! +1 "Laugh til I wheeze" point to you, mademoiselle.

This got me excited. So excited.

I'm just so excited, I'm about to lose control.

And, you know, I think I like it.

I was going to say something about how, with the herbs in her longevity potion, she probably tastes better than she ever has in her life...but...um...I'm not sure I want to go there :stuck_out_tongue:

That's some sage advice that your subconscious is giving you there.
