Zoltan smiles and it seems genuine as he pats her little hand. 'Now we're getting somewhere.'
"So you want us to put a mark for places you can't go in, not a mark for places you can go in? That is correct? How about we make these marks" he points to the drawing in the dirt. "In a color, a color that you don't like. That way you'll know. My mark will be in a color you do like, so you can come and go into my sanctum. Would that work Juriska?"
No. Just making it a different color is no good. I must have my own symbol. I would prefer one that told me to keep out but one of inviting would work as well.
Zoltan's smile becomes that of an indulgent parent perhaps, and he holds up a finger in a slightly mocking scold. "Now Juriska...If we were to make a symbol that invites you in or keeps you out...what would stop you from simply drawing an invitation on any door you like? Hmm? You are clever, we know that. I'll tell you this though...there will be one and only one door that has a symbol on it for you. It will also have that symbol, for everyone else." he points to the mark on the ground. "But, that symbol will only be on my door, if it is anywhere else...then you'll have broken a promise. And you know what happens then right?" He tickles under her chin for good measure. "But we'll make that one symbol very nice for you. And if we all agree with that..." he looks around at the group to see if there is agreement "then you'll be welcome on these lands and can come and go into my sanctum just as before."
((Sound good? Essentially he's calling for an informal vote, it might need to be ratified officially later on))
((We should stipulate this is for Juriska and Zoltan, not the rest, any other deal can be coordinated separately. And as much as I'd like to say Juriska is part of his power, that would fall apart under any scrutiny, Juriska is not a familiar. Jane is, so that makes a distinct difference that should keep the other magi and their familiar safe. I'm willing to stipulate (and Zoltan did also) that Juriska could not legally be considered part of his power. We should state that and move on; yet make it so only that effects Zoltan and Juriska, your familiars are safe. Bear in mind this is just in the Charter not the Tribunal and that can (hopefully) be amended later on if needed.))
((I don't see how we could even get the two spirits she can summon invited into the Aegis, or to participate in the ritual. They don't stay for more than a few seconds. Its almost like a spell that takes twice as long to cast. Pukis the Daemon can act as a vis source. Arguably he would count as a source of magical power for the vis producing reasons IF we summoned him and made a deal with him. However, Eve lacks the vis to summon him, so it would be a council decision anyway.
((I thought jebrick had already mentioned that "summons" that are Creo made within the Aegis will appear within the Aegis. I would expect this ability to work for anyone who can work magic within the Aegis, based on casting score if not invited, being invited, or having participated in the Aegis. Rego summons will not work, unless the being so summoned can actually cross the Aegis boundary on their own.))
"Indeed, I don't think we should. But we shouldn't go about defining magical power in excess of what the Tribunal has already established without some very strict and serious discussion. Take Juriska as an example, she's part of Zoltan's magical power. If, she enters my sanctum, what is Zoltan's responsibility to me? Her life would be forfeit, or I could keep her trapped in my sanctum forever. His rights end at my sanctum door, and vice versa. None of us are Quaesitores, or experts in the Code of Hermes, so we should tread carefully.
"Sodales...this has been settled. While I consider Juriska to be part of my power...she is not a familiar and would not be recognized as such. Would you accept it if we were to put one symbol on my door and only my door, so that she knows she can go in it? Then, any of your doors with the sanctum marker she would stay out. The rest of the buildings...well she does need to play and explore. Would this work?"
((You might make Folk Ken rolls regarding what Zoltan said, and how quickly he seemed to be saying it, while Zoltan will be using Comm+Guile, Jebrick can you make a roll for me please?))
"Indeed, it was. But Eve was making a general statement, where I am solely interested in discussing the specific. Specifically Juriska."
"Indeed, but her play puts you at risk. Something you need to recognize. We might also need to consider warding the library and vis storage area against her. I don't think you would like to be responsible of depriving us of our magical power because of Juriska's actions or attempts to be playful, do you?"
"Quaesitores lie, I speak from experience. If I can avoid involving them in our internal affairs here at the Oppidum, it is best for everyone involved." Ophelia says, acknowledging Zoltan's agreement.
Zoltan is considering his options. "You know, it is possibly easier to put up a symbol where you cannot go Juriska?" he turns to the others. "Wards against faeries are a bit safer than invites to faeries. And also there will likely be more places she is not to go. You would all need to participate to some degree in putting up the ban though, putting the ban on your door and invoking a ban for her."
Zoltan watches Juriska's reaction to the suggestion, suspecting that this might have been what she wanted all along.
Diotima shrugs. She suspects that sooner or later, if Zoltan doesn't keep an eye on Juriska, the faerie will find a sanctum without the marker, somewhere, and enter it... but ultimately that is Zoltan's problem, and in the meantime they are probably better off indulging the little creature.
"I have no objection to adding a symbol to my sanctum's door if it pleases Juriska."
"In which case you are now saying we need two symbols, one for Juriska and one for magi. But as Juriska is an extension of Zoltan's power, she should know well enough that the sanctum symbol is a do not enter, unless she knows it is his sanctum."
