((I'm on Hector...))
((Conversations with Philippos would be interesting as she/he does not speak Latin and only Greek. i would also say that given that you could eventually converse with a woman dressed as a man and got through what you want to do she would refuse. she might even think of hitting Zoltan for suggesting it.))
((The danger of hitting is there, but fortunately...fortunately Abdul speaks some Magyar and knows Greek. So perhaps the hitting could be deferred to him instead of Zoltan. We'll try with Abdul translating when Zoltan sees that she does not seem to understand))
"Abdul, translate this to the Amzaon. 'I need to cast a spell on you so that you can produce milk and nurse the hungry baby. Otherwise the baby will attract more wolves and maybe even starve. Will you allow this?'"
If looks could kill...Philippos looks at Abdul then at Zoltan and spits on the ground in front of Zoltan.
Zoltan steeples his fingers under his chin and wonders at his prospects as the cries of the baby increase. He had a way with women (he was told) but the Amazon was a different story. He says to Abdul:
"Did you ask her correctly? Did you say how without this the baby might starve and we might get eaten by wolves?"
In the meanwhile Zoltan starts putting together in his head a formula for a spell that might allow him to speak with the wolves. Perhaps he could summon a faerie wolf?
I said just what you told me to. I'm not sure he wants to do that.
Zoltan holds a hand to his chest and bows obsequiously to the Amazon. "Tell her I understand and it pleases me to see a woman so proud and strong that the cries of a hungry babe cannot stir her maternal nature. She must sleep well I am certain."
Zoltan starts considering options with magic.
((Don't have my book with me, to speak with animals would that be InAn?))
((Base 10 to speak to an animal))
((Nope that won't work, at base 10 that becomes a minimum level 25 spell just to have it for a Diameter or Concentration. We'll have to try something else then))
Zoltan concentrates for several moments as he contemplates what they're going to do, he doubted they could slay the whole pack, but the way they were acting seemed to indicate there was an intelligence about them. Maybe he could summon a faerie to speak with them on his behalf? At that moment he saw the small and dainty Szel who he had summoned a bit ago, flitting about the camp. 'Faeries can speak with anyone...' he thinks as he points a finger at her and beckons her to come closer.
"Szel, you see and hear the wolves outside the light, can you speak with them? Can you understand what they say? If so...tell them to send their pack leader into the light, we won't harm him if he comes peacefully and we can straighten out this situation."
Szel flutters around. Wolves but not Wolves gather. Should I seek true wolves?
The peculiarities of fae senses didn't confound him for once, it seemed like he was getting somewhere. "Ah...good. The wolves that walk on two legs, I have seen some in the pack, address them for me Szel and tell their leader to step into our light. To peacefully step into the light and he will be met with peace in return."
Szel heads out into the night and returns after about 10 minutes.
They,he,she said no. She asked why you do not feed the baby. He is watching. They are prowling.
Zoltan was not entirely surprised by the answer. "Tell them we want to feed the baby, but have no milk, no nursing mothers nor women who wish to nurse." he gives a sidelong glare at the Amazon. "If one of the wolves can nurse the baby we'll let that one in."
Szel circles around. Milk the baby...Feed baby to the wolves...nurse the wolves to feed the baby.
She flies out into the night and is gone for about 15 minutes. When she comes back she is accompanied by a she-wolf and two cubs. The she-wolf stops at the very edge of the firelight ( roughly 20' away) and lies down. The cubs run up to suckle.
A second, larger wolf can be seen by those with second sight. Further out and watching.
Zoltan pauses to think a moment about the current situation. 'It certainly makes for an excellent story.' "Rat, let's bring the baby to the wolf. If it was good enough for Romulus and Remus...it should be good enough for the babe." Zoltan escorts Rat over to the edge, waving to Hector and Abdul to follow closely. "Szel, ask them if they know who the parents of the baby are. Rat...let the baby...do what comes naturally I suppose."
Rat will move the baby over to the wolves and put its mouth on the wolf teet. She'll still hold onto the baby though.
The baby finds the teat and is quite happy after a bit of eating. She ( the baby is a girl) push on the wolf cubs that are feeding who push back. Once the baby has had it's full, the she-wolf stands and trots off back into the darkness with her cubs. The baby is very sluggish and lets out a large belch when Rat picks her up and then quickly goes to sleep.
Zoltan hovers over the scene, watching with some interest. "Oh, it's a girl." he even says to Abdul and Hector once that is discovered and he actually smiles. Once the baby, she, is finished he waggles a finger to her to get Rat's attention. "So, that is good yes? Well...let us bundle her up and be on our way then. If we hurry we might be able to make it back for a real wet nurse." he turns to Szel. "Ask them if they are going to...ah...escort...or follow us? We'll keep this peace going and the baby can be well fed until we're back by the Opidda and perhaps visits could be made. That's a lot...just say we'd like to leave now, they can follow if they like we'll take good care of the baby."
Szel flies off once more and returns after a short moment.
Nighty-night time is the right time. Daylight. Sunlight, not right.
((It's still night then I'm assuming?))
Zoltan nods. "Alright, then we are calmly going to start heading back now while it's still night and we'll take our rest in the day. Rat can you handle the baby then?"
