Adventures in Brief

Alright same as before, I'm gonna pick out the ability+Char combinations, calculate them then roll it.

First Challenge
First Check: A poorly shot arrow flies towards Aegis. Evan and Hadrain cry out a warning and Aegis side steps the arrow Brawl(4)+Qik(0)+Awareness Sup(2)=6
Hardain Returns fire striking the archer. Bows(Longbow)(8)+Dex(2)=10
While Aegis charges forth and finishes the Faerie off. Single Weapon(Short Sword)(5)+Str(2)=7
Second Challenge
The guard dealt with the party finds Evan's friend, but it looks like some sort of mystical trap is placed around him! How can they free the friend?
Evan thinks upon what he knows about the intersection of Magic and Fae Faerie Magic. He realizes he's seen exactly this before and they need to smash a statue two rooms down.(3)+Int(3)=6
While Aegis looks around for any clues that are invisible to the naked eye, and notices a few sigils in the hall which the team carefully steps around Second Sight(4)+Per(-1)=3
They conclude they must smash a small statue two rooms down the hall to disarm the trap, but when Evan does a horrible mystical ward fires off! But it deflects harmlessly of his Parma. Parma (3) +Sta(0)=3
The friend is rescued!

Rolls:
First Set: 6+6,8+10,6+7 Three successes
Second Set: url=http://www.coyotecode.net/roll/lookup.php?rollid=150309[/url] Explosion 1, Double Explosion 7: So that's three successes and I think the highest I've ever rolled.

Time: 8 Days
Experience: 12
Rewards: 2 pawns of Perdo Vis in the statue fragments and a confidence point for Evan.

OOC: Alright who is all at the tribunal? Evan and Aegis I know. Taurus is going? Am I missing anyone? Are we gonna get pasted at the tribunal?

Rolls are against one ability+attribute, not stacking two abilities. Brawl+quick, not brawl+quick+awareness...
doesn't affect outcome but I want this to be firmly established.

Still trying to plan out my adventure where I don't fail every single roll of target 12, on the wiki it says:

Because a 9 magnitude spell is nearing the realm of impossibility for a large number of magi, could a target also be made easier by casting a particular spell e.g. it's a very cold winter so cast a spell that keeps me warm?

I was trying to use this bit:

Do supporting abilities have to be the same as the main one? My intent was Aegis using brawl and getting support from the other two. Aegis doesn't have awareness actually. What qualifies as a supporting ability?

Yes, supporting abilities have to be the same ability. If I get into a brawl a friend joining the fight helps, one cheering me on does not. These rules are already an abstraction in a lot of ways, but this is akin to getting assistance in a lab or workshop...

Okay! I had that wrong. Now I know!

Gonna roll for the Tribunal since I don't see anyone else doing it.
The tribunal involves a bunch of claims against the covenant, but the team sees this coming and through clever use of logic and knowledge of the Code by Evan and co. they manage to defeat the claims and even conclusively prove they have the legal right to some of the covenant's vis sources.
Evan: Folk Ken(1)+Per(0)=1
Evan: AL(2)+Int(3)+Help(2)=7
Evan: Code of H(1) + Com(3)+Help(1)=5
The team then socializes afterwards. They drink, meet with their cults and so forth.
Aegis: Carouse(Huge Parties)(4)+Sta(0)=4
Evan: House Mer. Lore (4) +Pre(1)=5
Taurus: House B. Lore(6)+Pre(0)=6
Rolls:
First Challenge, First Check 1 An explosion! We might have this. And a 2. 2*2+1=5 Nope.
First Challenge, Second Check ?+7=14
First Challenge, Third Check 5+5=10

Second Challenge, First Check 1 Another explode! 3. 2*3+4=10. Still no.
Second Challenge, Second Check Botch potential, No botch, assuming only one botch die.
Second Challenge, Third Check Botch Potential, but No botch, assuming just one botch die.

The tribunal was a great success! Over 26 days of haggling, drinking and favor trading the team secures and has officially and publicly recorded the legal right to some of their vis sources. They are of course, exactingly described and written into the Code. On top of that they manage to attract a Mercer House to the Covenant. We'll have to set aside a little bit of land, and let the Redcaps work out some exact details, but we got ourselves our very own post office!

Time: 26 days
Experience: 2xp - we learned almost nothing.
Losses (4): Gain Hooks Public Vis Source, Mercer House

1103:
omens for indebted, mundane politics, Aurthor's mistaken identity, and double omens for uragen's supernatural nuisance

adventures:

  1. Castle- the castle itself is showing signs of some form of magical erosion of sorts- may be handled in any season first challenge is magical
  2. adventure with omen - Mercere house - apparently this compromise did not go over well with another covenant, which has sent ruffians to harangue the Mercer house's support staff. first challenge combat- one omen this year, spring challenge
  3. Anna's family has sent a message- her older brother, thought to have died in childbirth, turns out to have been abducted by faeries and has returned now to the family- if it is indeed the brother and not a faerie playing the part. May be dealt with in any season (and her parens may assist, or send companions or grogs), first challenge is magical- one prior omen
  4. Gabrial is set upon this fall by thugs who instruct him to ease up on the songs critical of one of the local lords- specifically William, Count of Monte Sant'Angelo: first challenge combat (any turb on patrol may have been within call to join this adventure, as may any of his classmates learning Latin)
  1. Aegis has Second Sight so she can take a look around. Evan will help too. He does not like his house falling down around him! Anyone else feel free to join!
  2. Aegis and a shield turb can stomp on some Ruffians.

I think Aurthor should pick who will help on number three, but Evan will be happy to help deal with Fae. Its sort of his job.

I don't want to take all the missions, but I do want to contribute. So wait a bit so other people can comment Silveroak?

Taurus would very much like to help or even take the lead with #1. Terram is his speciality, and he has recently improved his Intelligo capabilities. Having someone with second sight is a good idea.

Taurus can also take on the ruffians at the Mercer House, if no one else is available. He has not had a chance to really stomp anyone recently, and the prospect is invigorating. Taking along some grogs would only be prudent.

Gabriele would very much appreciate the assistance of some of the grogs.

How do we determine which grog(s) go with? Do we just pick a group of six?

Anna - do you want your parens to assist with the business regarding your brother, or do you want Aurthor to take the lead? Alternatively, Pazzino is down to read a summa on Faerie Lore at the start of the year - if we send him later in the year, his knowledge of faerie lore, premonitions and second sight means he has a chance at the magical challenges and he can deal with any social/legal challenges as well.

For any combat I would recommend taking Erberto, who is patrolling in the fall, Drago- who is studying Latin, and Aurelius, who is taking Latin. That gives you high scores in brawl, bow, single weapon and leadership. Adding a few others to boost those skills might still be a good idea...

recapping the teams we have so far:

  1. Taurus, Aegis
  2. Taurus, Aegis, and the shield grogs
  3. waiting to see how Anna wishes to proceed
  4. Gabrielle and some undetermined Grogs

Pazzino seems like the best choice here. Lawyerly type right? Send a grog with him too. Hadrian works.

With the first challenge being magical?

Very well:

  1. (wall maintenance) has only the one cycle, challenge threshold of 9
  2. (Merecere complications) has 3 cycles- combat, social and magical, threshold 6
  3. (Anna's "brother") has 2 cycles- magic and combat, threshold 9
  4. (Gabriell ambush) has 3 cycles combat, social, magic, threshold 12

A few questions ...

#1: Wall Maintenance
Given the threshold of 9, what level spell needs to be cast? I see the guideline for replacing an ability roll with a spell of magnitude threshold - 3, but does that apply to using the spell option by itself? (I don't see any guidelines about this on the wiki and the original solo-play rules said the spell had to be level 15+ for a threshold of 9.)

#4: Gabriele's Ambush
Regarding some "undetermined grogs", can I request Gaston or Etienne as the backup, or is it just he shield section? If it is the shield section, what skill(s) should they contribute? And when I make combat rolls, I just use the single weapon skill, not an attack bonus, right?

Who should roll for each?

#2: Mercere Complications

(forging ahead with this one ... let me know if I need to adjust anything.)
Cycle 1: Combat (Coyotecode #151509) (Taurus is in Bull form.)
Roll: 4 + 3 Awareness + 0 Per = 7 Success
Roll: 8 + 4 Athletics + 0 Dex + 1 (.5Drago's Athletics) = 13 Success
Roll: 0 (no botch #151510) + 5 Brawl + 5 Str + 2 (.5
(Drago + Aegis' Athletics)) = 12 Success

Cycle 2: Social (Coyotecode #151512) (Back in human form.)
Roll: 18 (1,9 #151513) + 21 Creo + 13 Corpus + 1 Stm (casting a spontaneous CHT CrCo20) = 53; Fatiguing casting = 26 Success
Roll: 7 + 2 OrgLore, OoH + 1 Int = 10 Success
Roll: 7 + 3 Aegis' Charm + 2 Pre + 1 (.5*Taurus' Charm) = 13 Success (Not quite the "bull in the china shop" )

Cycle 3: Magic (Coyotecode #151515)
Roll 5 + 4 Parma + 1 Stm = 10 Success
Roll 7 + 3 Penetration + 2 Int = 11 Success
Roll 0 (botch dice: 0, 6 #151516) + 6 Magic Theory* = Single Botch Failure

  • I was not sure what ability to use on this last roll, as none of the unused abilities seemed to apply. Didn't matter anyway.

Upon arriving at the Mercere House, Taurus and Aegis spent some time gathering information about what was going on, and how the House was organized. According to the staff, a group of thugs would show up from time to time demanding payment. If payment was not forth-coming, some minor but annoying mishap would occur to make life difficult for the staff. Lately, food bound for the House was spoiling in transit. The group convinced a member of the staff to help them set up an ambush for the thugs. When the thugs next appeared (one day earlier than expected; luckily they were spotted), Taurus and the group were initially attacked by a magical rat companion of the thugs. Taurus did not recognize the threat in time (one of the grogs took the magical hit), but the magus' Parma prevented further damage. After disabling the rat with a penetrating spell, Taurus transformed into his bull form and charged into the thugs, accompanied by the grogs, trouncing them soundly. The Mercere staff member took a wound in the fray; Taurus cast a spontaneous spell to stabilize him and the group returned to the House, having eliminated the threat. The House gave the Covenant a cedar wand that allows the user to cast Words of the Unbroken Silence.

reviewing this it appears that when I created the page I summarized the math but messed up the notation- it should have been divided by 3, not -3 for spell magnitude.

adventure 2 yields 5 rewards and 1 warping (magical botches produce warping instead of losses), with 6xp

technically Gaston and Etienne are specialists not Turb and could certainly be included since Etienne is patrolling and Gaston is carousing they both or either one could have been pulled into the situation.

I'm assuming darkwing should roll for #3

Can I roll for Wall Maintenance?

Go for it. I will be dealing with Gabriele's adventure.

I was planning on having Taurus flex his newly learned InTe skills. His casting score for these is 33 + Aura, which should be plenty to get the magnitude 3 spell, even if it's spontaneous. The other skills that would probably be most useful are Magic Lore 5 or Magic Theory (Terram) 7. I'm assuming you are planning to use Aegis' Second Sight?
