ACTIVE MAGIC:

APPEARANCE:

Alice is a very pretty woman in her 20s. Her beauty would be far more formidable if she really knew how to use it. Her pale skin and truly red hair betray her Scottish and northern English heritage.

When about the covenant or similar, she likes to dress in flowing outfits that go well with her hair and eyes. She tends to have sleeves that can hide her hands when she wants to disguise her spell casting. She usually wears a cross on a necklace as well as pagan jewelry associated with the Cult of Mercury, to which she belongs.

When adventuring she wears mail with a coif over a gambeson, carries a heater shield, and has a longsword at her hip.

For those who can see magic, she has an immense amount of Rego Vim magic near her and reaching toward items she carries or wears or reaching out to things nearby her, effects maintaining and suppressing many other lesser effects.

BACKBGROUND:

Alice was raised at Voluntas and groomed to be a servant to the magi there, taught Latin and other useful skills. Training began as a personal servant, focusing in etiquette and customs, and a little on being a scribe. Then her Gift emerged, surprisingly late but there nonetheless. Growing up in a covenant to serve magi and then becoming one herself, Alice knows no life but within the Order of Hermes. Her upbringing left her with an odd mix of Christian and Mercurian beliefs as well as a curious view of mortals that will likely persist forever.

Before she might be taken by another magus and because she seemed to have a talent with Rego, Honoratus of Flambeau took her as his apprentice. Honoratus trained Alice in the School of Ebroin and took her on missions with him so she could learn as a true Flambeau. It was soon discovered that she had a very strong Gift, allowing her to pour huge amounts of energy into her magic, but that it emerged late enough that her mindset was not as open as it would have otherwise been, making learning magic more difficult despite her facility with books. While he did teach her some magical theory, they did not spend much time in the lab because Honoratus was investigating the loss of House Merinita. Being only an apprentice, Alice was not privy to all that he had discovered, but she knew he had some Faerie Blood and was on good terms with a number of Merinita magi. That was before the House disappeared. Now he was investigating the disappearance of his friends, doing the physical part himself and turning to Caecilius of Bonisagus when he needed some additional support with Intellego magics. However, in the process, Honoratus died. Was Honoratus' death related to the Merinita's mysterious disappearance? Or was it something else? Alice does not know.

At that point Alice only knew two other magi well, Caecilius and Firminus of Flambeau, a master of the School of Apromor, renowned for his mastery of spells, and amicus to Honoratus. Being alone in the wilderness in the Rhine, Alice headed toward Caecilius, who adopted her as his own apprentice while also repeatedly probing her mind for every detail he might gather about Honoratus's death and what he had discovered about House Merinita. While Honoratus had trained Alice in more offensive techniques, Caecilius focused more on her general magic, training her heavily in Vim. While she had doubted Bonisagus magi before due to her martial training, she grew to greatly respect Caecilius and acknowledge that his pursuit of information was as valuable as the fighting done by the Flambeau. Firminus kept in contact with her as well, a couple times training her while Caecilius was in Twilight. He took those times to try to keep his amicus's legacy going, making sure Alice remembered her Flambeau roots. After twelve years living in a covenant as a grog, over three years with a Flambeau master, and nearly twelve years with a Quaesitor, Alice became determined to protect the Order from enemies within and without. She hopes to one day become both a hoplite and an archmaga, among the greatest defenders of the Order ever. This new covenant may give her more opportunities to finish Honoratus's work and begin her journey.
