I’m a lazy GM. Ars Magica is by far my favorite rpg, but I stopped running it about 7 years ago because I was struggling with the amount of work it took to create a compelling story in Mythic Europe. With the coming delivery of the Definitive Edition, I’ve been itching to run a new campaign.
I wonder if anyone out there has found any published adventures in any other system that have a compelling story that would translate well to Ars Magica. I’m not so interested in a campaign setting (because there are plenty of great settings in the published books), but rather the adventures themselves. Compelling Antagonists, and sites to explore.
My favourite cross-fertilisation is using Pendragon adventures. “Goblin Market” from the Pendragon 5th edition is a perfect faerie adventure and I’ve run it for an Ars Magica group that included a companion who is a knight.
Dragon Warriors, with its low fantasy dark Medieval setting, translates reasonably well. “The Elven Crystals” set of linked adventures should work well with Ars.
I will second Dragon Warriors - the early medieval flavour is spot on for Ars Magica. The adventure collections ‘Sleeping Gods’ and ‘In From the Cold’ should be relatively easy to translate over.
Another good choice is the game ‘Medieval Tales’, available on Drive Thru. It’s a good game which has five published adventures which would be simple to use with Ars Magica.
