The description of Faerie Wizardry in RoPF says, “Some faerie wizards are able to bring about supernatural effects with spontaneous spells that are similar to those used in Hermetic magic.”
I understand that the mechanics of faerie wizardry is completely different from Hermetic magic but does the description above mean that faerie wizards do not have formulaic spells? If I have a faerie wizard do I just use the guidelines for the character’s methods and powers and create any rite I have the levels and sympathy to accomplish? In other words, I never need to invent spells in the lab?
Yes, all on the fly. Some are rituals, which take longer. And there is no specific Method (whatever the proper name is), as you use any of them. Only the Power determines what is done. The Method determines how.
Thanks, that what I was coming around to. As my mind is already so invested in the core rules of Hermetic Magic, I often find myself reading many of the alternative traditions through Hermetic-coloured glasses. It would be useful for rules in different books to have more detail on how those mechanics differ from the ones in the core rulebook.
