Modern Day physics understands that mirages are caused by reflections/refractions of light travelling through the interface of hot air and colder air.
Does the Mythic Europe cosmology also understand this?
Just wondering if you can use Aurum magics to make mirrors in the sky.
I don’t believe so. To begin with Mirages tend to be associated with deserts- large mostly flat plains that are hot and dry which are not generally found in Europe. Secondly in places where they did occur they tended to be associated with trickster or malevolent spirits rather than atmospheric phenomenon.
He’s talking about fata morgana mirages, which occur in many more places than deserts. Particularly, at sea. It can also occur in the mountains (e.g., the Alps).
The phenomenon was certainly known but was not identified as an optical illusion. It’s probably the source of a lot of “disappearing land” stories… which in Mythic Europe I’d think would indicate Regiones. So, I don’t think you can use Auram magic to create a fata morgana in Mythic Europe.
