Balaurega ex Tremere

Advancement done except for aging.

Pricing on longevity rituals in Transylvania says "by directive", how does that work?

Should we play through her challenge for her own sigil?

She ended up 21 instead of 20 past gauntlet because of 1207; do you need me to shave off a year or is that ok?

At age 35 you would be given a level 25 longevity ritual. If you hit a crisis that deactivates the ritual it should be reported immediately.

I should note that someone who is ambitious should probably have put more time into securing their advancement in the heirarchy of Tremere, and potentially required more SG interaction on that topic. I'm also not sure when you would have challenged your parens to certamen.

I figured the season per year helping the house was the main avenue of political advancement. As far as the Certamen challenge, I'd think it would be at the end of the advancement, part of proving her worth for the new posting.

The season per year would be the main avenue for slow advancement- though your studies figure into the situation as well as your commander assesses what your potential for future assignments might be.
At the point were I write this I have only reviewed advancement to age 35, since that is obviously when assessment for a longevity ritual would occur.

I planned the seasons but where rolls didn't take place I'm fine with making changes based on SG interaction. (Or even if rolls took place, if you don't mind.) If there are things that should be done differently to help her advance to Experienced status, that she would know to do, for instance.

Based on the descriptions in HoH:TL, I'm seeing founding this Oppidae as the first act of an Experienced maga? Or is she not old enough? Happy to make her a bit older if that makes sense.

I did make the mistake of having a canon Archmage as parens, so the Certamen might be tricky.

The first act of an experienced mage is fine, especially one who advances through peaceful means. I'm trying to recall if I have said anything, or where a rule would be, about a high safety reducing botch dice to 0 instead of there being a minimum of 1. A little more detail on the advancement chart would have been useful since I use experience without affinity in my records and then multiply by 1.5 after the total is recorded.

I can revise if you need me to, where do you need detail added?

She's quite happy with the military structure, so peaceful means is fine. I was asking about Certamen mostly because I wasn't sure if you could advance to Experienced peacefully.

problem in spring 1206- you are opening the stone mail shirt with 12 pawns of vis- but your magic theory is still only 5, meaning you can only use 10 pawns.

Started at 5, 22 xp for two seasons reading (1198 Winter and 1200 Winter) plus 8 exposure for 4 seasons inventing spells Bullet and Barrage should be at MT 6

I told you that chart is hard for me to work with- I'm so busy trying to calculate and translate your vis experimentation that I'm missing rows...
I also really wish we had done this in shorter segments

Sorry, I'm happy to provide in alternate form, however you would like it. Or I can break it up.

I've got it now. Only flaw I see is that your xp over ability should be 5 higher for penetration.

That being done you are approached:
"We are promoting you to be in charge of a new oppidae, technically you will be the aedile, as the only Tremere, but all other members are Diodorus, and you will hold their contracts as the cives director. There will of course be oversight of your operation, we expect reports twice a year. The Oppidae will be a facility for research, included along with the members is an unGifted individual who, while at Scholomance laid out the groundwork for a secular mystery cult based in military traditions. He will be there to develop and teach this mystery, the goal being that the research done at this facility will form the mysteries for a house mystery cult. Do you have any questions?"

Balaurega bows her head.

"Thank you. I am grateful for the House's trust. I do have a few things.

There are matters of mundane staffing, I assume you are assigning an autocrat I can take up such matters with directly, yes? Will we be expected to establish our own income streams of vis and monies or will upkeep be fully provided by the House? I also assume you have a site chosen, if building hasn't been done already I would prefer to act as Architect, I can meet with the principals and make sure our needs are met exactly. I take it secrecy is of the utmost, so I will make the covenant hard to notice, and install whatever fortifications can be kept discreet. Once I have the library built I will address the question of books via blackcap. I take it we will be remote, and stealth will be our main defense rather than military force. I would request an aegis specialist, as well; I am capable of learning and casting a moderate Aegis, but a stronger one would be advisable, given the supernatural dangers of a remote location.

Can you tell me a little more of this new tradition and its founder? What status in the House does this unGifted individual have? I would like to meet them before I journey to the site.

Will I still be asked to perform my duties related to the dragons? If not, I would like to meet with my successor so we can go over my notes, before I start up the new project. Is there particular magical research that needs to be undertaken at this new Oppidae that I should have a hand in?"

"A new magus will be assigned as liason for dragons, or we may divide the duty amongst several mages given that others do not have your unique qualifications for that task. We won't assign an aegis specialist, but we will assign a casting tablet and lab text equal to the level of whomever is recruited that can best perform the task if they do not already know the spell. You can certainly meet with the architect, in fact due to certain mundane political issues we are wanting this constructed quickly and have assigned some craft mages to assemble the facilities quickly. Stealth is the primary means of defense, though if necessary you can of course call upon your soldales from elsewhere to aid in defense. Money and Vis will be provided, we expect this project to be rather vis intensive in fact and have allocated an income of 250 pawns per year to the project. Money will not be a significant issue as your needs will be provided for, but understanding that some research involves travel to remote locations a fund of 50 mythic pounds has been provided, it will be replenished annually provided all expenses are properly accounted for and documented. Again this is solely for travel, the supplies and expenses of supporting the covenant are being handled by the tribunal. We have received word of one small issue that may require some inventiveness- our first recruit has requested a lab near an ancient graveyard. we did explain that this is not possible for the location but it will fall to you to decide an appropriate substitute for this request."

[Would he know that she's a top tier craft mage? Or am I overestimating her ability and there are way better in the tribunal?]

given your focus he may not have realized that potential but you certainly could be one of the top craft mages in the tribunal, it is primarilly the fact that you never developed spells in that direction which limits your recognition.

Balaurega nods, jotting down a few notes.

“I am a magical crafter myself, though I haven’t published any spells, I prefer to improvise for the sake of expediency and flexibility. But the more of us there are working on it, the quicker we will finish, so it will be good to have help. I am obviously not the best at dealing with mundanes, but is there anything I should know about the political situation?

Regarding the graveyard request, I take it this is one of the Diodorus? How important is his research? It strikes me that such a graveyard would be of value to the House’s necromancers as well; if we could find a suitable one it might be transportable, or might be useful as a chapterhouse site, though the latter may create a security risk depending on where it is. I will discuss with the recruit, but if the House knows of any suitable places that are unclaimed or undeveloped it might be helpful.”

He considers " would a transported graveyard still be ancient? I realize the bones would be. Certainly a new graveyard is easy enough to arrange. Politically there are two isses. First Zadar was conquered by Venice a few years ago, and that is as I stated 40 miles away from you. The Roman tribunal has set up a chapterhouse there, we have established agreements for their people though it is still a tense situation. We don't believe Venice is interested in conquering inland, but as you might guess the Croations are not exactly thrilled. They took the city back in 1204 but lost it again in 1205. I'm certain this conflict will continue for some time. The second issue is Boril of Bulgaria. He has recently and unexpectedly ascended the throne under curious circumstances. His predecessor whom we fully supported was fighting the Latin invaders in Thebes when he was reportedly murdered by a saint, though mercenaries employed by the king were implicated. Boril has taken advantage of the chaos and confusion to bring his armies to bear domestically in Bulgaria to establish himself as ruler, and due to the nature of his takeover becoming involved at this point would be a step to far in interfering with mundanes, even within our own tribunal. We are of course fortifying our Oppidae in Bulgaria and shifting other resources out of the country, but aside from the impact on resources the only effect this should have on you is a degree of urgency, obviously any breakthroughs that could aid in resolving this conflict into our favor one way or another should be given greater priority while this situation persists. As such you will receive ongoing summary reports of our handling of the situation to keep you up to date. "

"I will discuss the graveyard issue with the researcher.

How do you envision our research improving the Bulgarian situation? Is it a matter of House might or influence? If we can't get involved I don't see how that would help. Or are you talking about breakthroughs in military doctrine that would be shared discreetly to advantage one side without direct involvement?"

"It is too early to say how the situation will be resolved or what might help. We do not know this Boril well enough, but we will. I mention it only so that you are aware of the situation in prioritizing your resources."
