I would keep the d10, or if I changed it I would use 2d6. Old school D&D is not as obsessed with a single die mechanic as the Hasbro versions. Jonathan Tweet borrowed that from ArM2 when he created the Hasbro version of D&D. The universal d20 is an aspect of the Hasbro game and Pathfinder that I strong;y dislike, hence why I stick with older editions.

I was thinking about this never-completed part and figured I’d give it a go 
Picking up where I (kinda) left it: how to design a pré-hermetic tradition?
Say, you’ve got 25 points:
- 1 point buys you a slow, Lesser Domain
- 5 points buy you either a Slow Greater Domain, or a Fast, esser one
- As an alternative, you can also buy Supernatural Abilities: They cost 2 points for a minor Virtues, and 6 points for a Major one.
Exempli gratia: We want to design a tradition of Seer.
-For 2 points, we’ll give them the Minor Supernatural Virtue Second Sight
-For 5 points, we buy a Slow Greater Domain: the ability to perveive visual species , which we’ll call Scrying
-For another 5 points, we buy a similar Domain, but for auditory species only. We’ll call that Hearken.
-Still for 5 points, we’ll buy yet another Slow Greater Domain, this time based on Ma’at Api guidelines ( RM p32), to discern properties of an area of earth ( no controling an elemental here), which we’ll call Listening to the Earth Mother.
-A similar abilty, based of Slow Greater Domain, this time based on Ma’at Nut, will a allow them to o discern properties of an area of earth ( but not control an air elemental). We’ll call that Listen to the Sky-Father.
We have now spent 17 points out of 25. With the remaning 8 points, we’ll buy:
-The Eyes of Theseus Minor Virtue (AtD p57) for 2 points
-Still from AtDp57, the Bright Eyes minor virtue ( 2 points)
-Again from AtDp57, the Invasive Eyes minor virtue for 2 points
-And, finally, the Dowsing minor virtue for 2 points
That’s a start. But, aside from Supernatural virtues, we’ll still have to decide on a spellcasting model
