I think this has been discussed several times before. For me, the fact that Tremere are superior at certamen is clearly established. Taking that away from them would change a lot, so for me that is out of the question. They also have a vested interest in keeping certamen the accepted way to resolve disputes, so they should not to let people get away with declaring wizard's war in order to avoid certamen (depending on their influence in the tribunal). Your saga is obviously different, so we should agree to disagree. Again, this has been discussed on this forum before and is too far from the question in the opening post, so it is not something I'm interested in discussing here.
