Chapter 12bis where Nauvi goes to Lincoln with three cheerful companions

Hamish comes in closer to the cart, ready to engage as needed.

As Hamish approaches, the man-at-arms who had been sleeping under the cart, is rolling out therefrom, spear in hand. «What was that, Godwain?» he asks, before he sees his companion, presumably called Godwain, who has fallen off the cart.

Before he notices Hamish approaching, he turns his anger to the prisoner, pointing the spear at her throat. «What the Hell did you do, Devil-Spawn?»

Then he notices Hamish, who is approaching to engage and not sneaking up to hide, and turns the spear in his general direction. «Who are you, Big Man?»

You can roll initiative, everyone.

Initiative 7 for Finn

Hamish Initiative: 4

Standard Soldier at 10.

Keeping Hamish at bay with the spear, he holds off his attack and repeats the question. «Who are you

I'll wait for Nauvi's initiative before I resolve any more consequential actions than that.

Nauvi is slightly surprised at the second guard under the wagon, and is slow to react.

[Initiative 3]

"Me? The boss sent me to relieve one of you two from watchin' over the witch girl," says Hamish with a shrug as he walks casually up, hand resting on his longsword. [Roll: 19]

"Get yer self some of that mutton stew, if I was you. Stick to yer ribs, it will."

«Who? Wulfric?» asks the soldier, rather surprised. «Kindness, at last, and you wake us up in the middle of the night» he sighs. «Well, then, where is the stew?»

He relaxes and rests the back of the spear against the ground, although he is still quite alert.

"Wakes up up as I gets here," says Hamish with a shrug. "Stew is back at camp. Down the road a piece back a bit from the road. The Boss ain't there yet. Sent me and a couple to come back this way and check on youse and the witch girl."

The big guy rubs his nose, partly to mask his glance toward Nauvi as if suggesting another sleepy time spell might be in order.

«That way?» asks he, pointing down the road and stretching his next.
«I cannot see the light from the camp fire. Is it far?»

"Maybe ten minutes," says Hamish.

The others may butt in now, before we continue the conversation.

Nauvi takes a quick look to check there aren't even more, then whispers in the man's direction.

[31 on call to slumber - penetration 23 - aura. Hopefully these two are the only awake people watching.]

The man-at-arms falls where he stands and starts to snore.

The lass in the cage lets out a little scream, futilely trying to hide in the corner of the cage.

Footsteps behind the church. Not sure if they approach.

Hamish heads up to the cage.

"Settle down now, sister. We're here to get you out of that cage and out to freedom. Settle. Not gonna harm you."

He looks at whatever is binding the cage shut.

«Wh-hat w-was that incant-ta-tation? Wit-witchcraft?» asks the lass.

The cage is shut with a padlock, a bolt, and a generous amount of rope. The padlock looks neither cheap nor feeble, and Hamish's axe would probably break the cage before it breaks the padlock. The grilles of the cage are every other bar of wood and of iron. The wood could probably be broken in a minute by brute force, and the the iron in a quarter of an hour, as far as Hamish can guess on sight. I reckon he has experience.

"Nothing so troubling as witchcraft, missy," says Hamish quietly. "Don't worry none about that. You know which one of these has the key to your cage?"

She shakes her head, and Hamish notices the smell of urine from the cage. Searching the two guards he still finds no key, and the lass adds, «Woo - the Wolf Coat, euh Wuffric ... locked the cage himself. I have not seen the key since.»
