Chapter 16 Council Meeting (Autumn and Winter 1014)

"I'll pass on harvesting that one. I have no affinity with fishes. But I'm glad you found the source."

Sionag is looking to recruit for both sites. It believes that it is its role to manage the care and health of members on both sides of the covenant.
It would like to put together a small staff capable of dealing with the bulk of small and medium-sized problems. So that she doesn't have to spend her life looking after minor injuries. On the other hand, for Ungulus, she's looking for someone who can stabilise a more serious case while she's being fetched from Oak Circle.
And so recruiting and training one or other of Clarissa's staff for Oak Circle might be a good idea. Sionag will have to plan for one or other season of teaching medicine/surgery, but she's fine with that.

As for Ungulus... I'd probably have to go and look in the surrounding Mundane villages to see if I could find anyone who could be trained. Sionag's aim isn't to deprive the surrounding area of their healers either...

For the familiar. Sionag assumes that a link of this type should take priority over a lot of things (+/- everything apart from Aegis, longevity rituals and healing). So if the covenant isn't prepared to advance Thadeus the two pawns, Sionag will be happy to ask for 3 pawns of corpus and 2 pawns of vim to lend Thadeus the two pawns of vim.
If the covenant advances the sum, she will take 5 pawns of corpus instead...

For the trade... as long as there is a permanent minimum of 8 Corpus / Creo pawns, she has nothing against it. But she does want to have stocks for healing rituals if necessary.

For the Nauvi ritual. Sionag is prepared to take a season to do it. On the whole, Sionag is prepared to manage the longevity rituals of all the magis in the covenant, provided that she has a usable laboratory in Ungulus or that people are prepared to move to the Oak Circle.

Since Thadeus has proposed keeping reserves of 20 pawns for Creo, Corpus and Vim, that shouldn't be a problem.

"Thank you very much for the offer," says Thadeus with a nod.

The salamander, realising that the discussions seemed to revolve around her, decided to slip out of her magi's hood, over her shoulder and down her arm to the meeting table, where she curled up in full view of everyone.

With a smile, Thadeus caresses the salamander with a finger.

After a moment, he adds, "I would note that each magus will have to determine with you how to properly compensate you for your time. The charter establishes that the covenant will provide the age-based vis required for member's longevity ritual, but makes no provision for the services of someone to make it for them."

"I want to be a specialist in Creo and Corpus, and good longevity rituals are good for your health. It's a priority for me. I know the covenant doesn't cover my service, but it covers time used for the covenant, isn't ? Maybe just considered that Longevity rituals and organization about health and healing for Ungulus and the Oak Circle are my contribution. Like some others work to find source vis, allies or enchant items for the covenant."

"Certainly, the council could consider this as a form covenant services," comments Thadeus, "I was simply stating that the Charter only mentions the vis. It left it up to each member to either perform the work themselves, or hire someone to do it for them out of their own resources."

He looks at the others, interested in hearing from them.

Nauvi is surprised by Sionag's offer, but seems pleased. "I was expecting to have to create my own, but if you will create it I will gladly help. Let me know if there is anything you need in return."

There is really no need to worry about Ungulus unless she has some very detailed plans and spends real time managing it. Clarissa is a very seasoned healer and long-time matron of the infirmary. She is already training her successor, as well as a small army of reservist nurses, which she does so well that sending one or two of them off to Oak Circle is no real sacrifce.

Looking for suitable people in the villages, Sionag quickly learns that Clarissa's reputation outshines everybody else in the Lake District. There are some dabblers, but they would defer to Clarissa for anything serious.

When she continues the search a little late in Autumn or early Winter, people turn away and pledge ignorance, and some bold fellows interfer and accuse her of being wulfric's spy. «Tell your master to go back to Eadric's lap!»

She has a chance to go into Carlisle later in Winter if she wants to push the matter further.

[OOC=Sorry for the delay, have been busy with work and being sick. Finally got around to reading the 90+ posts since I've last read it]

Elric will ask for the 3 pawns to be either Creo or Corpus.
He will offer to do one of the following as a covenant service for 1015:
Extract Vim Vis (Lab Total 38 = Int +3, Magic Theory +7, Specialty Vim +1, Creo +8, Vim +13, Inventive Genius +3, Planetary magic +3) for a total of 8 Pawns.
Investigate one of the Enchantewd Items ((Lab Bonus +45 = Int +3, Magic Theory +7, Specialty Vim +1, Intellego +12, Vim +13, Inventive Genius +6, Planetary magic +3)
And you add a Stress Die to this, so it could be higher.

Vis extraction gives one tenth of the lab total.

Oh well, but I also note that I forgot the Aura, so it's gonna be 5 pawns.

Plus aura 6 on bucket investigation for 51 total

So the final distribution will be:

  • Cath'rinne: 4 Mentem, 1 Creo
  • Thom: 2 Mentem, 3 Creo
  • Nauvi: 4 Creo, 1 Aquam
  • Betula: 1 Creo, 4 Corpus
  • Sionag: 5 Corpus
  • Elric: 3 Creo

Which leaves 2 Creo, 1 Aquam, and 6 Corpus.

Thadeus suggests that Elric be compensated for his season of service extracting Vim vis on a 1-for-1 basis out of the remaining vis. "I believe shoring up our reserves of Vim vis is a higher priority than investigating an enchanted item," Thadeus comments. (Vote called)

The remaining 4 pawns will be kept to pay for other offered services by members, until an opportunity arises to trade them, or for distribution of surplus next year -- in that order of priority.

"Does anyone else has a proposition for services?" Thadeus' question encompasses all those present, even Angus.

Thom shakes his head.

"I won't be able to say until halfway through the year. I'm going to focus on getting a lab established and then see where our needs are for establishing the Oak Circle. I suspect something will rise to the top of the priority list by then."

Thadeus nods, "I didn't expect propositions of covenant services from those who will establish the Oak Grove -- or is it Oak Circle now? -- since you will already be spending time setting up your labs and organizing support staff for the location. I suspect you will already be busy enough."

“Once I am a probationary member I can write a tractatus in Finesse, Animal, Herbam, Imaginem or Vim, which all seem to be in short supply in the library. I am reluctant to offer service as a protected guest, given I can be expelled so easily” Replies Angus

"I can understand your relunctance," replies Thadeus, "but what if we offered you some vis in exchange for writing a tractatus?" He looks at the other members, to see whether they would support the offer. "Our library is limited in some of those Arts, so that might be a woorthwhile endeavour."

“I would rather have probationary membership and write for no vis but if that is not on the table then an amount of vis would be acceptable. I would prefer Auram and or Aquam to study.” Replies Angus, smiling
