Chapter 9: The Man with the Golden Scythe

Aelianus keeps to Diodorus. What more could a magus need other than his familari? Although his fur brushing servant is sure pleasing to look at. Apart from Diodorus he will be lonely… But on the other hand who need mundanes really magic can do all the work they do and they are not blessed by the gods.

There is no problem at in getting a Nourice/Nanny for Edward, it is fairly customary among wealthy families at this time , and a good job for women . Even if the father is very strange and there is a maniac swordswomen who follows the family around.

Iolar has not been seen at the covenant for most of the season , she visited a few weeks ago but has spent most of this season soaring on the local winds as an Eagle.

While Aelinius is contempalting the majestic solitude of his domain he looks out of the window of his laboratory and sees that there is a new and most undignified and untidy scorch mark upon the White tower of the covenant, and upon closer inspection it appears that there may be some damage to one of the windows .

What in the blazes of…! Aelianus emits a shout of rage. Aelianus find the nearest servant. Summon my soldaes to the council chamber. Aelianus and Diodorus walks down to the council chamber and await his soldaes. Once they have arrived he asks if anyone else has noticed the scorch mark on the white tower.

Wirth
No

And we'll REALLY need to work on or commisson longevity potions

Aelianus: Then who did it? Have someone played with fire magic? We must have our servants clean the tower. This cannot be. I hope that no magic that has been residing inside the white tower has gotten loose… Perhaps we must dare the stairs in the white tower…

None of the Magi at the council meeting saw the burn mark created , Iolar is not at the council meeting but all of the other magi are. It can be determined that the scorch mark must have been caused last night as none of the magi saw it the day before

The answer is easy. Roberto or Iolar just have to use Intellego Ignem on it.

[color=red]Eh? I didn’t do it. I don’t think so, anyway. Point it out, let’s go have a look.

[color=red]What? You mean no one ever goes in there? I thought it was your private space, so I never bothered poking around. But if we have an unexplored tower right here in our own covenant, well, let me go explorin’! :smiling_imp:

[color=red]Yeah, I can spont “Tales of the Ashes” or something similar. Show me where the burn mark is. Is it near a window so I can reach out and touch it? Or do I need a ladder?

Roberto can handle his own already. His CrCo La Total is 28. After he studies a little more Corpus, he can crank out Longevity Potions for others.

When Wirth suggest that Aelianus is not that good with Ignem as Roberto or Iolar. I can sure manage a simple spell like tale of the ashes. You must be misinformed as I think that I am one of the most skilled Ignem caster here at our covenant.

To Roberto: The white tower where the old senior magi’s tower. I have seen the council chamber on the first floor and followed my master to his laboratory when I was an apprentice. However one of my masters soldaes where a member of Himnis confraternity and at the end he suffered a bad twilight experience and where never quite the same again… Sure we could walk up the stairs but enter one of the chambers. Aelianus takes a short pause. That could be extremely bad for our health. Have you ever seen a Himnis curse?

Aelianus takes his soldaes outside and point at the scorch mark. There it is. Well it is probably best to cast a spell and see what has caused it. Aelianus begin to cast a spell to find out what caused the flames.

InIg spell: Base 3 + 2 voice +1 conc. = 10
In 7 + Ig 11 +Sta 1 + Aura 6 + gesture and voice 2 + cyclic magic 3 = 30 + dice 0 but no botch invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2435747/ / 2 = 15
Aelianus concentrates enough to find out what he needs.

He is correct! I just checked the scores.

Roberto
Cr 5+3, In 3, Ig 9+3
CrIg=20
InIg=15

Iolar
Cr 9, In 6, Ig 10
CrIg=19
InIg=16

Aelianus
Cr 11+3, In 7, Ig 11
CrIg=25
InIg=18

Roberto has the highest “effective” Ignem score, but his actual score and knowledge is the lowest of the three of them. Aelianus has the highest Ignem total, and the highest Creo & Intellego of the three as well. Roberto has the second best CrIg, and Iolar has the second best InIg.
Creo has nothing to do with this. I just wanted to point out that Aelianus’ Ignem power exceeds that of Roberto by five points. Impressive!
But Roberto still has a few tricks :wink:. I am considering making a few Ignem items in the future, something that inspire Aleianus to turn his pride towards his sodales rather than upon himself.

Corrected
I will give the results of Aelinius spell later today ,as I need to check my books and have not had time at home yet

oops :blush:

The spell is cast at a level high enougth for a base of 4, which reveals that the scorching was caused by a creo ignem spell cast by Iolar last night

Well, Aelianus sigh, the spell was cast by Iolar. Now where is she? Aelianus looks around for the maga. If she is found he will ask the reason behind the scorch marks.

Iolar has not been at the covenant for several days, she has been spending this season flying around and talking to the local winds. She normally spends some time at the covenant every week or so but is is about ten days since anyone last saw her

Roberto pulls Aleianus aside...
[color=red]Maybe you shouldn't mention it so directly. You accidentally scried on a sodale. Let's just keeep it our secret. Start off by asking her if she knows anything about it, then ask her to cast Intellego on it herself.

We should wait for her. Would it not be suspicious if I, Aelianus stretch his body into his usual important posture, asked her to perform a simple ignem spell? If we don’t find her then perhaps we should begin to look for her in a few days. It has been unusual long since we have seen her… Had she not been a maga and protected by parma then Diodorus could have tracked her in an instant. Well there is not much we can do about it for now. Oh yes, perhaps one day we should take that friendly game of certamen. How about a creo ignem challenge? It would be most interesting to test my skills against a skilled flambeau magus.

OOC: Did you have some interesting ignem items in mind? Please tell me I am curious…

[color=red]It wouldn’t look suspicious. Just tell her you don’t feel like climbing up there, and since she can fly she can cast at close range and receive more detailed information. You are managing your resources wisely :wink:. And you can’t have Didorius track her, as that is also scrying. No scrying allowed.
As for certamen, for sport, sure. I’m game. Do you know The Test of the Flames?

OOC: as for plans for Ignem items, I am eventually planning on enchanting my sword. If I raise my Mastery for Sword of the Avenger one point, I can take Lab Mastery and add my score to my LT. I am also thinking of crafting magical heating and lighting devices of my own, both to improve my lab and maybe to make profit.

I know that Diodorus are not allowed to track her. Otherwise I would have done that already. I will speak with her as soon as I can. Now about this test of flames… I have heard the name but that’s it. Tell me about it. Perhaps you know. I am looking for a few lab texts on ignem magic, ball of the abysmal flame and arc of the fiery ribbon. Do you know them or someone who might transcribe them in exchange for some magical item?

OOC: Aelianus can create both items that give heat and light to a lab. He has already lab texts for it.
