character design and development

For 1125,

Gloriana/MR have no adventures until Winter, will advance through Fall. Question, silveroak, she has 15 points in Fertility Magic Integration, is this enough for the Fertility Lore skill minor Breakthrough?
In Spring, she will again Spont cast Rituals to raise her physical stats, she will coax Mother Rabbit into converting some of her Confidence into Creo vis, 3 pawns to be exact.
+1 Str level 35 Base, R:Personal, D:Momentary, T:Ind , as her Str is 0. Her minor focus applies (Self-Transformation), so her total is (CrCo 85, +5 Magic Aura, +5 Stamina + 9 AL/Philosophae + 12 similar spell (level 60) + _: 1D10 = [9] = 9 roll)/2 = 62, more than enough for the first roll. This is debilitating, she has to spend 4 vis (Mercurian Magic), she can substitute Co pawns with "Imbued with the Form of Corpus", so she spends: 1 short term Fatigue for Spont 1/2, 1 Long Term Fatigue for the Ritual, 3 Long Term for the vis, +1 Creo pawn from Mother Rabbit, so 5 Fatigue, nearly Unconscious.
She will rest for 5 days and do the Quickness one:
(CrCo 85, +5 Magic Aura, +5 Stamina + 9 AL/Philosophae + 12 similar spell (level 60) + _: 1D10 = [7] = 7 /2 = 61. Successful, another pawn from Mother Rabbit.
She will rest another 5 days, a 10 day span in which she will only come out of her lab when she is well-rested.
In Summer she will do the Dexterity one: (CrCo 85, +5 Magic Aura, +5 Stamina + 9 AL/Philosophae + 12 similar spell (level 60) + _: 1D10 = [1] = 1, _: 1D10 = [2] = 2 = 4)/2 = 60, successful
More improvements as vis is obtained! All done, will advance.
Aging roll: _: 1D10 = [3] = 3 +4 age - 2 Magi standards - 2 Healthy Feature - 1 Good food - 1 Good wine - 2 Bronze cord = -1 no apparent aging.

Andros/SR, same. Adventures done, lasted too long, Parma Magica book not completed, boo, hiss! Will advance.
Aging roll: _: 1D10 = [2] = 2 + 7 Age - 2 magi Standards- 2 healthy locale - 1 good food -1 good wine-3 familiar bond- 6 LR = - 6 nothing happens
Andros did not finish his Parma Magica book, next year!

Lady A has to wait, since Aurthor was crafting in Spring, but is now suddenly going to adventure, every day over 10 lost to the adventure is a -2 to Lab total, and if 20 total days long or more, the Lab season is wasted. She will read Trianoma's Legacy in that case.
Aging roll: _: 1D10 = [6] = 6 + 5 Age - 2 Wealthy- 2 healthy locale - 1 good food -1 good wine - 14 LR- 1 Monstrous Blood = -10, no apparent aging
Her husband has a close call: _: 1D10 = [1] = 1 uh oh! _: 1D10 = [4] = 4 8 + Age 6 -2 Wealthy - 2 Healthy location - 1 Food - 1 Wine = 8 apparent aging

Sandor has an adventure in Fall, he will be advanced through Summer. Done with adventure.
Also, he had scheduled training with Phillippe for Animal Ken, but the huntsman was in adventures for more than a month. So he will mosey on to the library for the first time and check out the newly acquired Animal Ken tome.

Sybilla, done, will advance.

Danaë might have an adventure in Summer, will advance through Spring. Done! Advanced,
Aging roll _: 1D10 = [9] = 9 +4 Age + - 2Magi standards - 2 Healthy feature -1 Good Food - 1 Good wine -1 Magic blood= 6, nothing happens

So silveroak this spell

Restore Fertility (F) II [CrCo 40, ritual, +95]
R: Touch, D: Sun, T: Group
This restores fertility to barren women, assuming the cause was some sort of injury, disease, poison or other trauma. Up to 100 women may be effected at once.

(20+1 touch +3 Group)
Sigil: ?

Has a Fatal Flaw, and a Minor side effect.

The spell works, but any children will have strong faerie blood and plagued by faeries, and are over 90% likely to be abducted by faeries before the age of 5.

I don't know if you have been checking who is taking classes at the same time, but Noll and Hambal have been taking every class they could with Sandor (their parents are pushing them to become friends with an heir!).

No, I haven't, just checked to see if there were 1, 2, or more people taking the same classes alongside for xp purposes. I'll go look these fellows up! Sandor is about ready to stop being a Bully and become Proud, but those childhood wounds sure are not easy to forget. Better to have some minions to watch his back.!

also yes, 15 points will allow you to get fertility lore, and converts to 15 points in the ability.

Thanks, will do that, Gloriana will salvage what she can from the lost race with her parens!

Hi Ignes.Festivus

Aurthor returns after 12 days deep in apologies with Lady A, together however they still can enchant the amulet without difficulty:

LT: Int 3 + MT 6 + Aura 5 + Re 19 + Te 6 + Lab 4 + Similar spell 3 + Lady A 16 - Distraction 4 = 58 vs MAJOR AMULET OF PROTECTION level 26x2 = 52

Lady A says she never doubted Aurthor's commitment for a moment! (Guile roll + kindly face + Aurthor's Lecherousness) . "This beastly impersonator has vexed you for so long, what does he hope to gain?"

Hi silveroak, Simian Rex has gathered sufficient Confidence to convert into vis and attempt Transformation (50). Andros will search for the strongest aura he can find with his spell Measure the Scale of Magical Power. The Praesidium already boasts of a powerful aura, but perhaps the Regio (from the hook) has a much stronger one, or perhaps a quest is needed?

So my idea for Anna's husband was an Italian Count attempted drinking "Living Water" sold to him by a wandering peddler in order to cure some horrible disease he was suffering from. It... worked. Sort of. He has been transformed into a magical being. To mechanically represent this I was thinking that the Transformed Human virtue and Landed Noble would be appropriate? And in Italy you don't need to swear an Oath to be a rich land owning noble right?

I like the idea, a few points to help with design etc,

  1. keep in mind that a magical human by default will have a "monsterous" appearance- which can mean a fish tail or other non-threatening but clearly unnatural feature.
  2. the husband is not a member of the order and may swear fealty.
  3. Women's oaths of fealty when they had land were limited to supplying money for wars, or possibly men, not for their own participation, and as such is likely okay with the code, especially if you appoint a manager to handle such details.
  4. Whether one needed to pledge fealty would depend on time and location within Italy. Calabria won't require oaths until sometime after 1127. Lombardy and Tuscany are good through the next century minimum. The papal states would require an oath of fealty to the Pope, which might arguably be considered not a mundane authority (though the way popes are behaving in this time period could change that!). North Eastern Italy is under control of the Holy Roman Empire and would certainly require an oath.
I should point out as well that Lombardy and Tuscany has a large population of Cathars and has been somewhat distinct religiously since the Lombards first invaded the region in 569... but that is getting into a tangent.

Well, when he's allied with the Order its fairly easy to resist the need to swear oaths.

On that note, what ability would a italian count use to manage his lands/assets? Profession Steward?

A steward manages specialists, which would be a step lower than the count, who would use leadership, though it would certainly be useful to have an ability in Steward as well.

So, Profession: Rich and Profession:Hiring the Right People.

Aurthor, Ibis, Arduino and Pazzino are updated until 1125!

Bam! Rough draft of Anna's new husband.

Story: Honor Fieldsman is an Italian Count. He owns a significant amount of land near the covenant. He wasn’t the eldest until disease struck down both of his older brothers. Soon after his parents were struck down by the same blight. Honor had been doing his best to manage the responsibilities suddenly thrust on him, but then Honor too came down with the same disease. Luckily for him, a peddler was selling magical water, which cured the disease, but left Honor transformed.

first put him on the wiki so we have an official version we are working on.
At first glance the immunity is too broad- examples in the text include iron weapons or fire, not ReTe or CrIg- it is also a clear end run around having low might.
Also the monstrosity of his form should be described.

Erm... the Aegis also has that immunity from character creation. She also took the time to teach it to Leaf. So, umm... do you want that changed to something like "might reducing effects" or what?

Also to me, it seems less broad/common than the immunities they have in the books. RoP: Magic has Immunity against heat and flame which covers basically all Creo Ig effects, in addition to normal to the vastly more common mundane version. I'm pretty sure there is another greater immunity that blocks attempts to mentally influence, including all Rego Mentum. Or Immunity to Cold which would shut down any Perdo Ig damage. YMMV

Also he was made with the Transformed Human virtue, so its not like he's getting a bunch of qualities for low might. And it still leaves him vulnerable to wards. I'd be happy to build him with the magical human virtue though and get a higher might. :stuck_out_tongue: More to the point, unless we change Aegis (and Leaf) he could just learn it anyway.

Anyway he's up on the wiki. The Greater Immunity has been changed to "???" for now, and the monstrosity is listed. I mentioned it in the adventure story, but its someplace you can find.

Slightly related question: Can magi hang out with familiars in a class on Magical Quality in order to let the familiar learn without the might penalty?

For a magical being "immunity to PeVi" is essentially the same as "immunity to PeCo" for humans. PeCo incluludes aging (which you cannot take an immunity to, outright killing spells, hampering a person, wounds- which immunity to these must be by weapon type, etc.
Lets convert all of these to "immunity to might reduction by magic or supernatural effect"
