Characters development discussions

Then Emericus and Alis overlapped for 12 years, which is about half their lifetimes. In Alis's case, that's from 15 to 27 years old. So they probably know each other fairly well. I'll skim over Emericus with that in mind to consider how Alis might react to him over the years.

Less likely these two met, then.

At least in the current version, Basilus spent most of his time in Triamore, and before that in some other nondescript place.

Well, Bonisagus in the same Tribunal, so it's fairly likely Emericus and Alis ran into Basilus at some point. Decent chance of running into Morrigan, too, as that's still Bonisagus and in a nearby Tribunal.

Basilus and Alis have starting their Bonisagus apprenticeships later in common, though Alis wasn't taken away from her prior parens. In her can he died.

Noting Emericus's Blatant Gift, he probably didn't have many friends among the grogs. Alis doesn't have the Blatant Gift, but she also doesn't speak High German (nor Low German), so she likely wouldn't have many friends among the Durenmar grogs. That might be mitigated a little since many of them likely know Latin, but still. There also aren't that many magi at Durenmar, so there probably are not many apprentices at any given time. It's likely Emericus and Alis were friends even if they didn't really like each other, just because they were about the only ones for each other to hang out with.

Separately, if you remove that asterisk from Puissant Magic Theory, your formatting will probably get fixed. You can do things like h to mark a house Virtue instead. The forum uses asterisks for formatting. You also lost a pile of dashes again.

I've seen on Callen's character that magic theory (spells) seems to be a valid choice so I'll be able to pick scribe by reducing vim to 4.

I wrote "spells" rather than "inventing spells" since they're the same and it is shorter. "Inventing spells" is a core-book suggestion as well as being selected by Darius, Lambert (MoH), Ranulf (MoH), Philippus (GotF), and Imanitos (GotF). Kore (MoH) and Scipio (MoH) have the same, abbreviated "spells" listed. That and "enchanting items," which is also a core-book suggestion, are the two most common choices among canonical examples of magi. Of course, that is partly because the single-Art suggestion gets split up over 15 Arts. Regardless, I always figure core-book suggestions are fair game.

I mostly took animal specialty because It's "understood" by metacreator during his carculation and inventing spell isn't.

Metacreator has a few things they decided to automate and really botched in the automation process. This is a lesser one. Their handling of Affinity is really messed up. It's less messed up in our game due to the house rule about fractional experience and a few V&F from outside the core book not being present, but it's still pretty messed up in this game. Emericus didn't take Affinity with any of the elemental Arts, so the huge problem Metacreator would make there isn't an issue. But problems still show up with Twilight and potentially with correspondence (which I suspect we won't use).

I use It only for character creation so I think I'll be fine.

I know It has its issues, I like It anyway because I'm used to It.

I've seen some of you use spreadsheets, do you have links for them ?

The only part of my character left is to write down active spells. Do we have some time before heading out to cast some spells? If so, how many days? If not, Alis will suggest to the others delaying for a few days to make preparations anyway.

You have as much time as you want before heading out. I suggest a short in-character meeting of the magi shortly after each of you pass your Gauntlet. Then you collectively spend a number of weeks (perhaps months) assembling everything to travel to the new covenant. There is a presence there of a few trusted custos setting up the basic necessities.

OK. I'll start rolling to cast some spells. I've noticed rolz.org has ArM stress dice incorporated. For example, 1A3 gives a stress die with three botch dice. I think I'm going to try it out.

I suggest we meet at Durenmar since two of us apprenticed there, we're Bonisagus magi, and it's generally open position. I'm going to assume Alis is there while preparing since she apprenticed there.

It seems to work pretty well:

I created an account here's the test :

Bitter:1A+5 → 11( (stress die 6→ 6)+ 5)

I'm not sure we really need the big banner ? The fact that they take into account botch dice and automatically reroll if result is a 1 is pretty good.

Eh, take a good look what is behind that banner. And I'm just getting started. For general use, I agree with you.

Definitely.

I have not gotten a 1 in my testing to see what it does.

I've gotten a 1, and it works fine. I've also gotten quite a few 0's, but never paired for a botch. Also, with this dice roller you can do things like 1A1+12. I've seen some others that handle the stress die but won't take the bonus. This handles the stress die, the botch dice, and the bonus.

I do expect Alis to end up with a Warping Point or two by the times she's done with all sorts of preparation magic. Her preparations will also take a week or two if I limit her to 2-3 hours per day, which seems reasonable while getting other things done. Most of that time is for recovering Fatigue.

I "plan" on doing a lot of experimenting but mostly with lower level spells to start. I am guessing that some of my time will be taken copying from the Great Library.

Wow! Alis has picked up 2 points of Warping, and I've only rolled a small pile of spells. This die roller likes giving me 0s. Really thankful I picked up Cautious Sorceress. Overall, I don't really care much about Warping Points, I just really want to avoid Twilight. Don't want to botch while facing an enemy, but botching in safe environs when you can dispel things isn't so bad. Of course, I'm not positive those rolls are even stress rolls anyway; the spontaneous stuff certainly is, but casting a known spell in safe circumstances as intended normally isn't. I've been rolling it as stress since it has to be cast with a second spell, which I figure is never trivial.

Before you start rolling dice, I need to know the effect she is trying to achieve with each spell. If these are effects she plans on using regularly, it might be worth defining those as if they were formulaics.

And in any case, the four magi will meet each other before that.
