Removes the protection that the Parma Magica grants against the social effects of the Gift if the Parma score is less or equal than (20 + stress die)/5. This means that Magi affected by this will feel the effects of suspicion and distrust typical of those carrying the Gift. Some Maga that have not felt this for years, as they diligently were protected by the Parma Magica, may react strongly if they are under duress such as a wizard's war or simply being paranoid. As the effect is subtle Magi typically, do not notice the flaw in their Parma as all other aspects are intact. Blatant/gentle gifts and alluring/offensive to magical beings apply as normal. This effect needs to penetrate the Vim-based magic resistance of the target to have any effect. Uber of Jerbiton typically uses this effect via an intangible tunnel to render ineffective the other party's efforts in a passive and relatively peaceful manner. Unfortunately, things did not always end the way he intended and in a war with Stephan of Flambeau, Stephan killed a fellow covenant sodalis thinking they were conspiring against him! Stephan had shown signs of being over paranoid in the last few years.
(Base Gen +2 + stress die: Dispel Hermetic Form Resistance aligned to a given Form with a level less than or equal to the level of the Vim spell + 2 magnitudes + a stress die (no botch). Spell must penetrate the Vim-based Magic Resistance of the target, +1 Touch, +2 Sun)
I don't think you can remove the part of the Parma that protects against the effects of the Gift without actually removing Parma's protection, unless T: Part is a valid target under Vim, which I don't think it is. but if it was, it would be D: Mom, because you don't need to sustain a Perdo spell to get rid of something.
The two effects below are what my effect is based on. They basically remove part of the Parma for a given duration.
REVOKE THE PROTECTION OF (FORM) PeVi Gen R: Voice, D: Diam, T: Ind There are ten versions of this spell, one for each Hermetic Form (see New Guidelines). If the target has Form Resistance aligned to the appropriate Form that is less than or equal to (spell level – 5 + stress die), then the Form Resistance is canceled for the spell’s Duration. Form Resistance automatically reasserts itself once the spell ends. This spell must Penetrate the Vim-based Magic Resistance of the target to take effect. This spell carries similar legal implications to Revoke the Protection of Bonisagus. (Base effect, +2 Voice, +1 Diam) Source: The Contested Isle – The Hibernian Tribunal, 62
REVOKE THE PROTECTION OF (REALM) PeVi Gen R: Voice, D: Diam, T: Ind There are four versions of this spell, one for each supernatural Realm (see New Guidelines). If the target has a Might Score from that Realm that is less than or equal to (spell level + 5 + stress die), then its Magic Resistance is canceled for the spell’s Duration, reasserting itself when the spell expires. Might Score is otherwise unaffected. This spell must Penetrate the Vim-based Magic Resistance of the target to take effect. This spell is typically used when the caster wants to affect a supernatural creature with a beneficial spell, or subdue but not harm it. (Base effect, +2 Voice, +1 Diam) Source: The Contested Isle – The Hibernian Tribunal, 62
The guideline introduced in TCITHT also made it to DE. Is removing Form resistance akin to removing social hindrance resistance?
They don't (but I understand the analogy). Removing the Parma is done using Revoke the Protection of Bonisagus (The Contested Isle 62). Removing the Parma doesn't remove the form protection, which stacks with Parma Magica and is often thought as a single effect - but it isn't a single effect. Those two spells have a duration because the resistance they remove is innate, and not an active effect - unlike Parma Magica, Might and Form Resistance don't expire at sundown.
No. It's part and parcel of the Parma Magica. It isn't innate like the form resistance. What you're trying to do is to dispel only part of the Parma Magica's effect. You would use a different type of guideline as well:
Dispel effects of a specific type with a level less than or equal to the level + 4 magnitudes of the Vim spell + a stress die (no botch). A specific type could be Hermetic Terram magic, or Shamanic spirit control magic. A magus must have some knowledge of a type of magic (although not necessarily ability to use it) to invent a spell to affect it. All Hermetic magi have some knowledge of all Hermetic magic.
You could do this if T: Part is a valid target under Vim. I don't think we get a clear statement anywhere that it isn't a valid target, but we don't get a single example of it that I know of that shows you can do this and how, and the Vim rules on individual targets as they are applying without consideration for the scale of the effect seem to point in another direction: you can target a T: Group spell with a T: Ind PeVi spell to break it accross the group, even if you can't currently target the group anymore... because you're targeting the spell, not the person. So I expect it would trigger a discussion at most tables on whether this is allowable. Can we remove the Aegis from a room or from interefering with a particular person's magic? Can we just delete the quirk of a spell without deleting the spell? If we allow T: Part under PeVi, do we allow it for MuVi and ReVi, and how would that work? Could we MuVi a group target spell such that the effect isn't the same on one of the targets in the group? Can we sustain or suppress the part of a T: Group spell for only a single individual, and let concentration lapse on the rest of the group? Good questions. I don't expect all tables to reach the same conclusion.
Dispel Hermetic Form Resistance aligned to a given Form with a level less than or equal to
the level of the Vim spell + 2 magnitudes + a stress die (no botch). Spell must penetrate the
Vim-based Magic Resistance of the target
Dispel Magic Resistance from a Might score aligned to one Realm with a level less than or
equal to the level of the Vim spell + 4 magnitudes + a stress die (no botch). Spell must
penetrate the Vim-based Magic Resistance of the target.
There is no guideline for "Dispel the part of the Parma Magica effect that affects The Gift penalty while leaving its other effects intact." This would require a Breakthrough.
Effects that have no guidelines do not require a breakthrough. Effects that break a hermetic limit of magic do and we already know that a vanilla PeVi can dispel the Parma.
I see what you mean. Wizard's boots, extend, etc. all affect an aspect of an effect without requiring the "part" but a parameter might not be the same as a function of an effect.
I don't think I believe this. Your old Sodalis, who you have worked pleasantly alongside for years, suddenly appears to be secretly plotting against you. And you think nothing of it? I think there should at least be a specified roll (Per + Awareness + relevant personality trait?) to guess what has happened.
Of course, if it's a sodalis you have never trusted anyway, that distrust getting worse would be subtler and harder to notice, but then the "benefit" (to the caster) is smaller.
A related question: people can get used to the Gift of other individuals (though not the Gift in general). Does that work while you have your Parma up? I don't think that's clear, but if so, then the spell will only have an effect on magi who don't know each other well.
