Divine Solomonic Arts?

Sihr can be associated with the divine, what about the other solomonic arts?

Would it help if the person being initiated had true faith?

There is no evidence for it, though I imagine a "Holy Magic" virtue equivalent (see RoP:tD pg66) does exist, if rarely initiated.

Quite frankly, it bothers me to remember that the Ars Notoria (see RoP:tD pg97) aren't in any way considered by the Suhhar Suiliman (Order of Solomon). It is even at the end of the Mythic Christianity section. Still the capacity to Summon Angels should qualify you for the Suhhar Suiliman.

Look at the languages required to study the Ars Notoria: Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Chaldean. These would scream "Sorcery most Foul!" to a pious muslim, and especially cast serious doubt on the nature of summoned angels.

Fair, but Rings are right there and Gietic/Infernal Sorcerers are a part of the Order of Solomon, so I don't think it would stop them.

The Mythic Zorastrians chapter provides a sidebar indicating its possible there are holy sahirs within the tradition.

Beyond that- if the arts were truly from Solomon, it is possible it was originally divine or divine+magic but somehow got corrupted into being magic.

Most sahirs cannot learn or practically use Ars Notoria.

For learning, it requires one be christian. Most sahirs are already excluded by dint of being muslims

Ars Notoria is part of a mystical
Christian tradition and is only available
for Christian believers. While both
Judaism and Islam honor Solomon,
Apollonius firmly linked the Notary Art
with Christian beliefs, and specifically
asks the God of the Christians for these
magical boons.

Beyond that however, the penalties for the ars notoria recitation score from supernatural abilities means that any sahir with a decent solomonic art score suffers a high penalty since solomonic arts are accelerated abilities. Since this is a gifted sahir, the penalty is likely exacerbated by having scores in multiple abilities

Supernatural
Ability ...............– score in ability

All in all Ars Notoria is simply an inapplicable or impracticle choice for most sahirs

Sihr itself is banned by islam pretty explicitly, so sahirs are already acting flexible in that regard unless the sahir is using adjuration or the like. That said the cultural perspective at the time may have been more lax.

Also, these are pre-Islamic languages aren't they? Some of them spoken by Biblical prophets revered in Islam as well, I believe. So "it's infernal" seems a stretch, though I can believe that it's Christian-only, at least in this form.

Muslims scholars I believe in the period had a tendency to hold numerous texts in at least Greek and Latin (and I believe Hebrew too, but less sure) in high regard, so decrying a book as infernal on that front is dubious.

I think you're more likely to get in trouble for getting into a (relatively obscure) aspect of Christianity than the actual languages

Admittedly, I'm personally a fan of the idea there is a Solomonic Theory written by Solomon himself that has numerous lost breakthroughs integrated- including synchronising the solomonic arts and the divine- that may be found in some regio or the like. Ars Notoria may count as an insight source towards such, or may give clues only a Gifted individual with the Solomonic Arts may notice (which so happens to be very few sahirs currently since most are muslims and thus uninterested).

That said, that's a massive storyseed to discuss with your SG if you wanna do it.

Have a look at the Bayt al-Ḥikmah. Yes, Koine Greek was studied by many Muslim scholars to get access to Hellenistic scholarship.
But studying Chaldean, Hebrew or Latin would have been a weird pastime for them. Nothing worthwhile would be expected from there.

Studying the real Ars Notoria was an occupation of occultists from Christian culture. And this is also taken up by RoP:TD p.97:

Ars Notoria is part of a mystical Christian tradition and is only available to Christian believers.
