From Herry to Arran - Print and PDF versions on DTRPG

I have now released From Herry to Arran as a 24 page booklet on DriveThruRPG - click here.

This is an overview of the rugged Isle of Arran, covering:

  • The key settlements

  • The mundane family who think that they rule here

  • The magical forces that really rule here

  • Notes on faerie areas

  • The island's “Seer” - Eoghann mac Iomhar Ex Miscellanea

This is an island on the cusp of major change. The old Norse-Gaelic way of life on the island, known to travellers as the wild isle of Herry, is fading. It lies at the edge of the emerging feudal kingdom of Scotland, and in time this will be absorbed as the feudal holding of Aran, to eventually become the modern Isle of Arran.

The setting is accessible for characters from the Stonehenge, Loch Leglean, Hibernian or Normandy Tribunals, or can be used as a settings for a one-off or mini-campaign. The setting is self-contained, so should work whichever of the popular local settings you are using - whether The Contested Isle, Heirs to Merlin, Lion of the North, Orphans of Merlin, etc.

The island would work for stories including raiding or feuding with warlike locals, trading for (or stealing) Mentem vis, or hunting or battling with ancient ghosts, within a context where feudal power is looming from the east and war may be on the horizon.

As a few notes:

  • The original release of this was a rather ugly version on my Patreon. The introductory adventure and the high-res map are both still on Patreon. This is as per the thread here: From Herry to Arran - #4 by KevinH
  • For anyone who bought the Patreon version… I cannot update the shop item on Patreon for some reason. I’d love you folks to have a copy of this much, much prettier PDF without having to pay for it a second time - I very much appreciate the support - so if I can find a way to edit the shop item to include the new PDF I will.
  • Text is under the Open License, of course.

Patreon recently updated their shop system, making it impossible to update products that were created before the update. You can create a new product, though.

Yeah, but then I need to know who should get a copy for free - don’t want people who’ve already supported me to have to buy again.

I fear that for now the best that I can do is just to send out PDFs to current Yosano Patreon subscribers, and then if any non-subscriber who has already bought the old ugly PDF wants a pretty version they can just ask and I’ll send it :frowning: Would prefer a more elegant solution.
