Yes, but that will reduce his SQ to 19. If we're teaching grogs Latin, we might as well open the class up to grogs as well. That'll let us get a jump on teaching the covenfolk Latin.
As I think about it, the answer becomes clear. Duncan (who has Unaffected by the Gift) should teach Mordag while Finlay and Regan take Latin classes with the grogs. (At this point, they have more in common with the grogs than the magi, so they'll fit right in,) Duncan's summa on New Atlantis Lore will have to wait.
This gives Mordag a SQ of 25 and Finlay, Regan, and the grogs a SQ of 22. (We might as well give Mordag the 25. If Duncan teaches two, his SQ drops to 21).
Quick question for later on- Can Meliai use Pagan as a flaw to lower the teaching threshold for names of power? I realize it is not a hermetic flaw, but it does seem to match well to the virtue...
Sounds fair to me. Maybe add the caveat that if you ever pretend to not be Pagan etc, you lose access to said names?
I may have missed something. How do you use a hermetic flaw to lower the teaching threshold for a name of power? Are you talking about a flaw for an initiation script?
In apprentices, it works only when teaching a hermetic virtue, not initiation: p41 of apprentices, adding a minor flaw gives +3 to your teaching total to teach a virtue, adding a major flaw gives +9 to your total to teach a virtue.
Let me take a look.
I've been thinking of some names for places. The obvious answer is to go with the Founders:
Bonisagus Bay (for the large bay in the northeast of the island)
Guernicus Mountains (for the mountains on the island)
Lake Tremere (for the big lake on the island)
The Merinita Forest (once we have a forest big enough for a name)
What do people think of that?
We also have four sets of hills, numerous rivers, another small bay on the west side of the island, likely some more forests by the time Meliai is done, and no doubt plenty of villages and towns before this is all done. So everyone will get something eventually.
I've thought about it and think that while Pagan might be thematically appropriate, granting a story flaw to teach a hermetic virtue is mechanically inappropriate. Reading page 41 in apprentices, it seems to me that the whole point is that you can grant a hermetic benefit (i.e., grant a hermetic virtue), but in doing so restrict the student's ability to use hermetic magic (i.e., grant a hermetic flaw). It's all about mucking with the student's ability to do magic. Being a pagan does nothing to restrict your ability to use magic.
Also, it seems like the idea is to give a permanent mystical flaw that goes with a permanent mystical virtue. At the end of the day paganism is a choice; it is not necessarily a permanent thing. After all, you could change your mind at any time. (You might not change your mind. But that doesn't mean that you couldn't.)
So I'm going to say that as cool as it sounds, it's not appropriate to impart the Pagan flaw when teaching hermetic virtues.
Your apprentice may still take the Pagan flaw, of course. Being trained by Meliai would certainly warrant that. But that flaw will have to be one of (his/her?) allotted ten points of Flaws.
I was just fooling around with my map program and did up the following to show a close-up of the area around the covenant. I labeled things according to my suggestions, but that can easily be changed if people don't like the names. I can also move the docks if you'd rather locate them somewhere else. The dashed line is a very rudimentary trail that's used for ferrying supplies from the docks. It's on the spot where it looks like there was once an Atlantean road. Oh, and the rivers are only just starting to flow as water gets trapped by the mountains. Lake Tremere is still a salt water lake for the moment. It has clear water flowing into it. But it would be a long time before it cleaned out naturally without magic.

Just so people know, I will be using the stats on the wiki when I need to look up stats for your character. Please try and keep that up-to-date. (I think people are allowed to edit the wiki. If not, let me know.)
Suggest we have pages for the stats delineated by game year. E.g. Constantine-1220, so that we have points in time to work from. Otherwise finding the stats for specific periods is tricky.
I'm also not yet finished changing Constantine, hopefully soon. Alterations are not huge.
Wait, I don't think I'm allowed to edit the wiki.
I'll try and fix that when I get to my computer.
Anyone who is a registered member of wikidot can now edit pages on the wiki. No need to join the site. Just register for wikidot.
Well, the library is mostly up-to-date. I'm still not sure what tractatus Meliai has from her correspondences. Her development thread isn't clear. But I've named all of the tractatus that were bought with silveroak's BPs, so there's that.
I've also decided that anyone who has made up a literate lab assistant can have them spend two seasons copying lab texts for you to go into the library. Just post the lab texts that your lab assistant is copying.
I'm thinking of creating some crafted items in the first few years for the covenant.
To detect lies akin to Frosty Breath Of the Spoken Lie. Room.
Another to scramble or destroy the species leaving a room but not within it so it is private.
To inflict pain upon any Infernal in the room.
Posing silent question, sight based.
All very useful devices. ![]()
So, do we want a level 30 or a level 50 Aegis on the covenant?
