Hi,
Goetic ars binding says:
A spirit bound to an object acts as a sort of anchor for other Infernal effects, including maleficia. This is similar to the way Hermetic magi prepare an object as an invested device. The binding can hold a number of spell levels equal to the spirit’s (Might x 5); the sorcerer must devote a season to preparing the spirit for the effect and must then successfully perform the ritual that casts it. Use the laboratory rules (ArM5, pages 95–100) to determine the number of uses per day, whether the spirit maintains concentration, and so on. Hermetic magi may treat a bound spirit as if the object were an invested item already opened for enchantment, with a number of pawns of Vim vis equal to the spirit’s Might.
I have some questions:
-
can you instill multiple maleficia into the item if the might x5 allows it? the plural is utilised ("including maleficia") in the first sentence, but then latter the singular ("casts it") so I'm not sure.
-
can you combine that maleficium/maleficia inclusion + hermetic effects into the item, and how to manage the vis?
Personaly I'd say yes: just apply that every 5 levels of maleficia (max "might x5") equals 1 vim pawn unavailable for enchantment (from "invested item already opened for enchantment, with a number of pawns of Vim vis equal to the spirit’s Might") -
is there a way for an item to "count" the number of time its power are used?
- I see in the mystery "hermetic numerology" there is a guideline to count but it counts "the number of things in a target".
- Here I'd want more the item to register the number of time a power has been used and when "X" number of times is reached, that would be used to trigger a (unknown) cursed power due to maleficium... if 3a question receives the according answer
sub question 3a) is it possible to include a maleficium later than during the season the spirit is bound to the item?
-
an indirect way may be to use a linked "trigger" in another effect which adapt a memory; en effect with constant duration, and the memory is "the number of activation", which is then increased by one. This would require an independant effect to create a "blank" memory in the item, to be targeted by the MuMe effect. That CrMe would need also to be constant. Maybe you are of the opinion that a single Cr(Mu)Me effect is enough?
-
or if all the previous discussion in question 3 doesn't receive a positive answer - and maybe even if it does because it would be more efficient -, using cursed parameter from an effect, which seem to not require any thing to trigger it else than the "condition", and it seems the condition can include things which, in hermetic magic, would require a triggering event (for example the maid who babbles about the ceremony is a valid condition even if not InIm (to check the sound she produces and the words she speak) or InMe is used.
However, this requires chthonic magic to be able to use maleficia parameters.
Thanks for your insights and opinion,
Greetings,
Exar
