Background

Heinrich is a third son of a minor noble from the Mostviertel (Austria). He was an aggressive boy, and strong like an ox, so he was predestined to become a knight. Only his mother, a French noblewoman who had been married away far from home for political reasons, tried to keep him off the battlefield by teaching him her language and the basics of the law.
When troups from the 4th crusade came by, they were looking for young fighting men with nothing to do but fighting at one tiurnament after the other. Their promises were doubly tempting: Land and glory in the east, plus fighting for the good of your soul.
At the Sack of Constantinopel, they all drank to courage and he bragged to his unit before the battle of their rewards in plundering and raping, hoping to screw the soldiers' courage to the sticking point. But this was no tournament or campfire for big words. This was war at its ugliest. Once through the breach, his words turned prophetic. He himself killed women and children in his battlelust, but he saw others drag nuns into dark corners and piss onto church altars.
And then something in him broke: He didn't want to kill anymore. But he knew fully well that fighting was his only talent that he was responsible for this butchery. He didn't want to turn to a God that let these things happen in His name.
And his darkest hour, when he cried out his desperation to the world, Eikona appeared, beautiful and unafraid, reminding him of his mother. She asked him in French why he was crying, and he told her, and she sat down next to him, and they both cried.
Then she offered him a job as her bodyguard: He would never have to kill innocents again, she promised, but protect her from aggression, and free the world from monsters and demons. It was a way for him to put his talent to a good use and to do penance for his sins.
He now uses his name in Latin to remind himself he is a different man.

Appearance

Henricus isn't particularly tall, but so broad you can call him squat. his hands are large. He has dark hair, the kind of idiot cut known from early Robin Hood movies, and is icredibly hairy all over (his nick is bound to be Hairy). His eyes are a watery blue and look sad and gentle. He speaks slowly and quietly, with a voice you'd more expect in a preacher than in a muscle-covered war machine. He keeps his equipment in working shape, but refuses to fetishize it like many other knights. He sometimes talks to his destrier Paulus.

Notes and details

This character will gladly give his life for Eikona, but he will refuse any order to attack unless someone is in real danger. This may be a problem if the attacker looks like a woman, a child, or an old man.
