Grogs

Looks like you need a virtue/flaw that allows Jehanne to take Martial Abilities and to take Latin. May I suggest Custos (which allows you to take Martial abilities and Latin both), with another balancing Flaw to keep her balanced (perhaps Judged Unfairly or Social Handicap)?

Ack. Good catch and good point. I'll add in Custos (for Falko too) and come up with a suitable additional Flaw for each.

Rashid, Spidersilk Weaver
An Outsider with strange ideas
"Yes, I mean, technically the Qu'r'an says not to drink, but have you tasted the water here? I'm sure God would not want me to risk getting sick. And, yes, okay, technically we're supposed to pray aloud while kneeling on our prayer rugs, but with that brutish thug over there, I just thought it might be safer if I was to sort of, you know, just touch my prayer rug without actually unrolling it...."

Rashid has had a colorful and checkered past, in large part due to the Reconquista movement in Iberia. Though a peaceful man at heart, he picked up the sword when his wife and children died at the hands of a bizarre unkillable demon (see Phoenix, 2.4 - Investigating the Refugees) that mutiliated his own face in a refuge camp and did not put it down until his blood-thirst had been sated.

It was roughly then that he discovered Phoenix Covenant, an oasis for him to heal in. His skills were in little demand, for these Christians couldn’t produce silk in this climate even if they had known how. Even though he continued to participate in the Muslim community in Phoenix, he faith began to dwindle, and his adherence to his religion became a matter of fitting in among his peers, rather than pious belief. When he discovered that Viscaria had befriended a giant, female spider, he became obsessed with applying his knowledge of silkweaving to the new material, and his piety became a very lame creature indeed.

Forsaking the comforts of the flesh, as much out of mourning as religious duty, Rashid throws himself entirely into experimenting with this new material. Though nominally claimed as a Forge Companion by Viscaria, she has yet to use him in this capacity, and seems to mostly just be funding his odd experiments out of a sense of obligation for his losses.

Grogs shouldn't have major virtues or flaws, as a rule. I can certainly treat him as an outsider with out the virtue, but you should consider other flaws. Foreign Upbringing, from Grogs, for example. It would suggest that he's successfully assimilated at Mons Electi, which makes sense with another Muslim there.

I'm not inclined to inflict warping on all the grogs who live and work in the regio, and there are many.

Another grog for your feedback.

Eloise Lainniere

Eloise Lainniere, wife of Gaston and mother of Guilheum, is one of the favorites among the covenfolk. Truly beautiful, she can often be found gambling with the men of the covenant, flirting with them one by one as she takes their silver from them. In truth she would be accused of cheating were she a less enjoyable sight at the dice table (although good fortune does seem to smile upon her generally). Inevitably, the constant attention has fed her ample vanity, although few men complain about it in her presence. The women of the covenant, on the other hand, make catty comments about her boldness, and about her delicate disposition - she is not overfond of travel in general, and usually arranges for an eager man to run her errands for her.

I don't have Grogs. I assume it's a minor Social.

Edits in red.

Looks good, it is from grogs, and I didn't expect you to have it, but I thought it would be more in line with what you wanted, to differentiate the character from the other grogs at Mons Electi.

As mentioned earlier in another thread, the house rule that grogs get 30 xp per year applies only to non-specialist grogs who have been statted out completely. This means that it's still up in the air how specialists at Mons Electi, or characters who aren't fully statted, advance.

I'd like to propose that those characters get 15 xp per year, that can be allocated however we want on a yearly basis. In other words, abstract annual advancement instead of seasonal advancement.

For characters that are simply not fully statted, I doubt this is that controversial (although let me know). For specialists, I don't know if Jonathan had something different in mind...? And I would certainly want to hear any objections or counterproposals where workshop-workers (Pierre Legris, Rashid, and their helpers) are concerned, since the workshops themselves are updated seasonally.

Thanks for your input all around.

I might revisit the whole 30xp thing. Seems over generous the longer I play. Then again, there is something to be said for it in this saga.
If you're working for several seasons to support the covenant, and the covenant is receiving a cost savings, 15 instead of 30 is probably reasonable.

I am working on Grog advancement now. I think a fair and balanced number wouyld be only 20xp/year for Grogs, 30xp/year for companions, and 40xp/year for Magi and the Wealthy.

Thoghts?

No problem for me.

I'm presuming that when you say 40 xp for magi, that means any npc magus that is part of the covenant. Say, Rose, for example. My preference is that for all magi that they be advanced with the resources available, and not abstractly advanced.

Yes, exactly. The abstract average for NPC's and CharGen

So, are we still advancing grogs at 30xp for 1227/1228, or dialing back to 20?

Personally, I'd prefer 30, as much for consistency's sake as anything else.

Couple of questions about Patience (Chastity the Forge Companion's daughter and Wilhelm's apprentice).

 • Does anybody want her, or should I stat her up and maintain her?
 • If it's me, should I make her as a companion/future companion, since she's Wilhelm's apprentice and eventual replacement, or just keep her as a grog until Wilhelm keels over?

Also: I just noticed that after I made Henri for the Have You Ever Danced With The Devil? thread, I just...kind of...forgot about him. Should I advance him year-by-year from 1223 to 1228, or can I just spend 150 points?
