Lab Use

If you read a book in your lab, does that use your lab for the purposes of lab usage. Looking at the covenant book it has a different lab cost multiplier depending on the lab use.

What is considered lab use?

Reading is not a lab activity. Lab activities roll against a lab total.

As Troy implies, there’s a line in the Laboratory chapter to the effect of: Lab use involves of Lab Total. Reading does not require a lab or lab total.

How do you think that works for the two provided specializations that don’t or might not use a Lab Total: Teaching and Texts? Teaching probably involves the expenditure of some resources, like maybe quills, ink, and paper for note taking. Texts definitely does for copying or transcribing lab notes or writing books. But since neither of those activities have listed costs in the main book, I’m guessing they don’t have significant costs.

That’s what I was looking at. The lab “use” instead of “generating a lab total”

generating lab totals means the maintainance is much lower

“If an activity is based on a Lab Total, the magus needs a laboratory to do it, and there are also a few activities that do need a laboratory, but are not based on a Lab Total.”

Teaching spells uses a lab because there’s demonstration and experimentation involved. Remember, the teacher is really guiding you through the process of inventing a specific spell.

Lab Texts, similar logic.

You’re asking what the cost in silver is?

I read covanants and know the costs.

If you use a lab 1 season or less in a year I cost is multiplied by .5. if you use a lab for 2 seasons it is multiplied by 1. If you use a lab for 3 or 4 seasons its cost is multiplied but 1.5
