The Troll's Tablespoon
Intellego Aquam 12
Base 5, R: Touch D: Momentary T: Individual, +2 3 uses per day
A polished beechwood spoon with the image of a butterfly inexplicably carved into its handle. When it scoops a portion of potion or other liquid, The Troll's Tablespoon identifies what magical properties it has, if any. After three uses in a single day, the spoon appears dull and charred until the next morning. The information is shared with the wielder in the form of a whisper not unlike the flapping of moth wings.
This spoon was the result of a Hibernian Merinita maga running a scam on the local villagers. After one of their custos sold a Longevity Potion to a greedy knight, they soon found that they could distribute mundane pine needle tinctures with a Creo Vim shell over them, taking money from the village and fooling the one folk witch in the area. About a decade later, there was a riot at her covenant's front door and a frustrated Redcap summoning the Merinita to trial. For interfering with mundanes, she was ordered to pay a fine of several real magic items to House Mercere.
And of course, she ordered her apprentice to build two of the three items. The order was only that she had to deliver them, not make them.
