Lucas of Mercere - Development

Honestly, I looked at the size of the towers (assuming that they were roughly Conjure the Mystic Tower size, since that spell was used to replace one.) At 30 feet across, that's a 15 foot radius, figure 13 after accounting for the outside walls. The area of one level would be 2pi(13)[sup]2[/sup] = ~1000 sq feet. It seemed taking 650 out of that for a lab wasn't unreasonable.

Also, when I looked at some of the historic labs I saw that they were size 1.

That having been said, if labs have to be Size 0 then I'll just drop the Gallery.

In order to fit in helping Antoine with his LR, I need to experiment to try and get the Wand of the Giant Soldier done in one season.

Experimentation, +3 Risk Factor
Experimentation Bonus: 1D10+3 = [6]+3 = 9

Experimentation Results: 1D10+3 = [2]+3 = 5: Side Effect

Side Effect: 1D10 = [4] = 4: Minor Side Effect
I was thinking that it might give the subject of the spell slightly ogreish facial features in addition to making them grow.

LT = 12 (Mu) + 11 (Co) + 3 (Int) + 6 (MT) + 5 (Aura) + 10 (Lab/Fam.) + 6 (Appr.) + 9 (Experimentation) = 63

That's what I was thinking, too. But I just rechecked the house rules for Laboratories, and it looks like the "default" size is 0, but you can increase the size using points from "mustering out", using 10x the pyramid Arts cost for the size. +1 is 10 points, +2 is 30 points, etc.

If I can do that, I'd be happy to. Otherwise I'll just drop something from the lab and deal with it when I can spend time for refinement.

Great idea!

I'm going to slightly alter the spell Wings of Daedalus that Lucas is developing because like an idiot I hadn't considered Warping. If it's level 35 it'll cause Warping, which makes it a lot less useful for grogs. But if I drop it to level 30, then it's just fine.

That being the case, I can squeeze development into one season if I experiment:

Experimentation Bonus: 1D10+3 = [8]+3 = 11
Experimentation Results: 1D10+3 = [10]+3 = 13; potential Botch
Botch Dice: 1 (Base) + 3 (Aura) + 3 (Exceptional Risk) +1 (Lab) - 3 (Cautious Sorcerer) - 1 (Gold Cord) = 4
Botch Dice: 4D10 = [7, 8, 3, 7] = 25; no Botch
Experimentation Result = 0 + 3 = 3; No extraordinary result.

Thank heaven for Cautious Sorcerer!

Took me a couple of minutes to find the original spell (which is, I guess, based on a spell from Tales of Mythic Europe, maybe? Which I don't have.)

I take it you're dropping the Duration from Moon to Sun to get it down to 30?

Yes, that's where it's from.

Exactly. Can't go warping all the grogs can I?

lol right.

Also, a Moon duration flight spell is of little use anyway, so you save on warping AND time!

Is there a house rule on Warping (that isn't posted in house rules)? Warping starts at 30th level.

Yes. It is posted in there somewhere. Warping begins at the seventh magnitude.
Here it is.
Seventh Magnitude

The Moon duration was really only to handle the edge situation of a battle crossing the sunset threshold. But we can work around that with extra castings.

Isn't that solved by making it Sun duration with a Trigger: Sunrise/Sunset? I believe that combo doesn't have the "flicker" effect that D:Concentration items that maintain concentration do.

Alas, it's a spell, not a device.

So, now that Lucas is a master, he gets 10 £/year paid for the upkeep of his lab. To that end, I'd like to add Precious Ingredients to his lab. With that addition, his Upkeep will be +4, or the 10 £/year he's allowed. My understanding is that since this is a Free lab virtue that it doesn't actually take any time to add to his lab. Lucas just starts using better ingredients one season and it costs more to pay for.
