Mission: Improbable

Bernhard curses Ludwig, his ancestors, magi in general, and a couple pagan gods, then pushes Vibria aside. Back, Fraulein. Once he has a little space, he throws up his hood and becomes the bear. He passes through the ward and roars at Ludwig.

Ludwig is still convulsing on the floor, frothing at the mouth.

[color=red]"Bernhard, can you bring him out here? I might be able to see what's wrong with him," Vibria says, then adds [color=red]"besides the obvious" under her breath.

Bernhard swipes him with a paw to slide him over to the entryway. If Ludwig gets scratched up it's his own damn fault.

(Based on the Wards house rules, the ward only keeps people out, it doesn't trap them in.) Bernhard rolls Ludwig across the floor and out into the stairwell, still convulsing.

Vibria will give Ludwig a quick once-over to try to figure out what's wrong with him. ((Int 1 + Chirurgy 2 + die roll of 4 = 7. Not a great roll.)) Maybe he's allergic to gemstones? Which (1) will teach him to go popping strange things in his mouth, and (2) means more for her.

And I don't think she's actively looking for a magical explanation, she may notice something to point her in that direction. Int 1 + Magic Theory 3 + die roll of 2 = 6. Not any better.

Well, he DID eat a gemstone, so he might be choking.

I didn't think it would be that simple.

Chirurgy to invent the Heimlich? ((Int 1 + Chirurgy 2 + die roll of 0 (botch check comes up a 0). So. um. Botch. Shit.))

Vibria kneels next to the convulsing goblin for a few seconds, then grabs his jaw with her left hand, forcing his mouth open. She then reaches in with her right hand, grabbing for the gemstone that he's choking on. Suddenly her hand slips from his jaw and his teeth snap shut on her hand. She screams in pain and pulls her hand back, blood pulsing from where her index finger used to be.

Ludwig begins to cough, as he starts actually choking. He coughs up the finger and spits it onto the floor, and sits up. "What's going on?" he gasps, reaching towards Vibria...

...Who promptly turns into a weasel.

[color=red]"Ook ook?"

Once weasel-ified, Vibria finds that the pain is significantly diminished. She can see her finger lying on the floor, but when she looks down at her... paw, the paw is mostly intact, though the corresponding claw is missing.

(Weaselified Vibria can freely cross the barrier.)

Meanwhile, Carmen is watching cloud-sheep excrete weather phenomena.

It could be a dual effect, another ward facing the other way for a two way barrier. And it doesn't seem like a "true" ward, in that it isn't targeting anyone's might score. More like a simple Rego Corpus keeping someone from moving forward past a certain point (controlling their motions).
And Ludwig already bumped into the barrier in human form once already . But it is already known that the barrier is designed in a quirky way, maybe it is one way or two way, maybe Ludwig was cycling through his animal shapes while convulsing.

:exclamation:
:open_mouth:
It was just a single botch!! omg! :exclamation: :open_mouth:
Don't loose the finger! Bring it home! There is magic that can fix this!

Which is pretty amusing I must admit
I wonder what happens if I cast...
never mind
Jupiter, Thor, same difference. But what does this mean, to bring this wrath upon you? Does he make storms and lightning? I can do that
So he shears you with just regular shears? Or maybe special magical ones. Let me see what I can do for you.
Carmen flies back inside (before MtDS expires) and heads back to the lab to ask Ludwig to find a pair of magic shears.
And walks upon what is going on.
I can't leave you guys alone for even two minutes...

Bernhard considers shambling back over to smack Ludwig for real, but decides it can wait. He starts searching lab for the bow without changing form. He wasn't wearing his armor, so all he'd be wearing is his cloak. Now probably isn't the time to distract Vibria.

Bernhard: Where is he looking, what does he touch, and where does he go?

Carmen: Ludwig looks pekid and disoriented, he doesn't seem to be in any shape to search for anything currently.

He goes wherever he can without touching anything. He's primarily looking for the bow. It's not like he hasn't seen magical wonders before, plus he figures every one of them is a trap waiting to spring on whoever nudges it.

Just in case...Per 1 + Awareness 2 + roll 5 = 8. Specialty is alertness, if that matters.

Bernhard doesn't see it sitting out anywhere, but there's a lot of places it might be. There are two doors, a balcony, and a spiral staircase. Also, two large chests (though one would imagine that if Ludwig had seen the bow inside the iron chest, he would have grabbed it... but then again, he's a very greedy little guy so if he saw something he wanted to eat, he might not have noticed anything else.)

S'okay, he ran this idea past me before I posted what happened.

Vibria will scurry around for a moment, getting her bearings, then goes up to the barrier and stands up on her hind paws to lean on it to get a good view...and promptly falls through. She shakes her head, then starts to scurry around. She first goes up to the holo-chess chest, rising up and sniffing at it intently (resting her forepaws on the rim) trying to figure out how to get it through the barrier, then starts to scurry around looking for the bow. She checks the places that make the most sense: in corners (not just of the room but those formed by crates or other things), anything that looks long and thin enough to hold a bow, underneath something else, peering under the doors if she can, sniffing at the chests, etc.. ((Per 0 + Awareness 3 + (die roll of 1, followed by another die roll of 1, followed by a die roll of 5) die total of 20 = 23.)) If she doesn't find it in here, then she will scamper up the stairs.

While she's looking for the bow, she's also keeping an eye out for valuables (mundane and hermetic): jewelry to (try to) replace the monster Ludwig gobbled, fine clothes, silver, diamond-studded platinum back-scratchers, whatever catches her eye. ((Per 0 + Awareness (spotting things of value) 4 + die roll of 5 = 9.))

All of this at a speed approaching Warp 8.

There's nothing of particular mundane value out where Vibria can see it, though. All the shinies were out on display in the studio.

There's a stack of texts on the desk which are likely Hermetic and thus valuable, but meh. Some of the items in here are bound to be of Hermetic value, but it would take investigation to determine their magical value. Oh, but over there-- that shelf over there is full of casting tablets, all neatly organized primarily by Form and secondarily by Technique (just like in the PHB). And the biggest section, by FAR, is the Creo Corpus section. Maybe there's something there to reattach her finger? The guy IS a healer, a doctor from Oxford, after all.

But... holy criminy...! There's a candelabra on the shoulder-height ledge that runs around the room, but it's sitting not-quite-level. Which Vibria instantly realizes makes no sense at all, because this tower was constructed with Rego magic, by a guy who obviously has a whole lot of Finesse; all the angles are perfect, so why is that candelabra sitting just so slightly crooked? She can't reach it while weasel-ified, though.

Speaking of which, Ludwig chases after Vibria. "Not so fast you little runt," he grunts. The little gobber moves like lightning, and when he reaches down to scoop up Vibria, no sooner has he touched her than she pops back up into her human form (where her missing finger returns to HURTING LIKE BEJEEBUS).

((Did Vibria's clothes change with her, or are they in a pile on the landing?))
