If you’ve purchased the product, feel free to drop your comments here, and I’d also appreciate a review on DriveThruRPG
I’m a publisher on Drive Thru, and Drive Thru won’t let publishers review products. BUT I just want to say I love this resource. My Ars project is set in Iberia and not only did “Of Magic Condensed into Shape” give me a dozen vis sources in that region, it gave me folklore that I can follow up on with research, like Coluber, the giant serpent of Coimbra, or the Aguila Caves.
The work is illustrated with photographs of actual locations, which are great for showing to players. The whole thing is clearly laid out and easy to read. The updated Art symbols look good.
My sole suggestion is about the title. We live in a keyword world, where people search for resources based on words they think or hope will be in the title. The current title is evocative and absolutely the sort of thing a magus of the Order would call it, but it’s not helpful for players who are trying to find it. Literally any title with the word “Vis” in it would solve this problem, because that’s the word people will search for when they want a list of vis sources. The published work does have that word in the subtitle, but that subtitle isn’t part of its Drive Thru listing and so does not show up in search. Maybe something to consider in an updated edition.
Thank you for an amazing resource that I will use in literally every saga I run, and in the second volume of the Joan saga.
Am glad you like it, and can find use for the Vis sources and folktales referenced there!
Will take a look at adding the word Vis to the title, so it’s easier to find on search.
Whups, wrong thread. Carry on.
Ooh, this is cool! I’m also unable to leave reviews on DriveThru. I just read the Hibernia chapter since I recently started a saga there, and I really like how you incorporate the local folklore into coming up with the different vis sources. One problem though, I noticed that in the description for Lough Gur (bottom of p11) it looks like you had a note to yourself that you left in there.
That slipped past me, correct. Will have to find the time to take that off, and upload the corrected file.
Thanks for letting me know!
Ok, I think I have uploaded the corrected version, give it a try and let me know. I also tried to allow a preview of 2 pages on the product sheet. Let me know if that works as well.
The preview worked correctly, but I’m still only seeing the file with the error still in it - nothing saying there’s a new version
Try downloading it again now. I thing I got it fixed this time.
Yep, all good now
Wait, what’s this you say about a second volume? :o
I don’t want to derail the thread, but you can find more info on Joan’s novel here: The Joan Stories: an Ars Magica Novel - #15 by Doctorcomics
This is good stuff! Bought me a copy.
Wow, coming from you, that’s a very high praise!
I'm probably the only one here who don't get where I can find that PDF ? Edit: okay I got the fact taht drivethrough is a website who sells pdf.
I'll check that if it's affordable and comment. It may be useful to have ideas.
Here is the link, and it is affordable, I think.
Having read it from start to finish, I can only recommend it.
Hi,
I bought the .pdf and noticed some little quirks. One source (among the first pages) say you gather X items then in the result says (X+1 or X-1) vis.
A "legend" panel for one of the images was wrongly above the whole page, when the image itself was under the whole page (the image was about "giant" something, in the first pages).
I didn't read everything yet, but I like the variety.
Also I notice that as I start to realize, most of you seem to give vis source with a relatively stable production (X per year). I learnt to play in a troupe where most sources have a random composed (using some dice rolls to figure the yearly output), avoiding any "this covenant produce that vis each year" mechanical roleplay, which is according to them - and me since I kept this way of playing - making vis something much less thematical/roleplay than it should be.
I will take a look over it again, to make sure it's fixed.
As for fixed vs. non-fixed Vis sources, I prefer the fixed income, but as I state in the beginning of the PDF, you don't have to use these as they are. You can change the Art they produce, or what Realm they produce, or even change the amount of Vis they produce.
Don't worry, I will not be coming to your table to make sure you use these sources exactly as i wrote them...
Oh sure, for the randomness it was not a critic but rather a constatation I'm making again (I distancied myself from these forum since the covid era when the website was mostly unusable and unstable).
